Yabba-Dabba-Oof! It hardly matters that The Flintstones, at this point, is already an exhausted franchise (its last movie, a crossover with the WWE, appealed to no one). And Ryan Gosling, after bringing Ghost Rider back to life, has decided to do the same with the Stone Age family. What’s more, he says he has a terrific idea to connect with younger generations: to sideline Fred and Barney and focus on a character nobody has ever paid much attention to: Bamm-Bamm.
Where’s Pebbles?
If you’re Gen Z, let me refresh your memory: Bamm-Bamm was the son of Barney and Betty Rubble, Fred and Wilma Flintstone’s neighbors, who first appeared in 1963 after they found him on their doorstep. Taken in as the couple’s adopted son, we know that he grew up, married Pebbles, became a mechanic and ended up moving to Hollyrock while trying to become a screenwriter.
Now Gosling is convinced he can make a live-action Bamm-Bamm movie (no cartoons) that will attract audiences. In fact, apparently, he’s the one who wants to play the character as an adult. That said, the project is only just beginning and they don’t even have a screenwriter yet, but everything suggests that, since nobody can tell him “This is a bad idea”, it’ll keep moving forward.
It’s worth remembering that in 1994 it was already proven that The Flintstones could be turned into a live-action movie (with John Goodman and Rick Moranis), which even got a terrible prequel that’s best forgotten. Will we get the original actors back, now as grandparents? Yabba-dabba-at this point I don’t even care!
