NetEase Games, based in China, is the developer of Destiny: Rising, following the announcement of a partnership with Bungie and a $100 million investment in the studio in 2018.

Destiny: Rising will be set in an alternate timeline of Destiny, exploring the era after the Dark Age of the universe and the lore before the Tower existed and before the appearance of the Guardians.

A Destiny in the hands of NetEase, Bungie has given total freedom

NetEase holds the license for Bungie’s Destiny brand and has been granted creative freedom to develop its own storyline and vision for Destiny: Rising.

“We want to capture and represent a specific era where the reins are in the hands of the players to experiment, explore, and define,” says Stone Shi, senior narrative designer at NetEase.

Unlike Destiny or Destiny 2, you will be able to choose from a wide variety of Destiny hero characters instead of creating your own Guardian based on the Hunter, Warlock, or Titan classes. Among the hero characters are some like Ikora Rey, who already exist in Destiny and Destiny 2, as well as new characters.

Each character will have unique abilities and stories and will be able to access single-player, cooperative, and competitive multiplayer modes. There will also be the usual Ghosts, Lightbearers, Iron Lords, and Warlords found in the Destiny universe before the Last City.

In the game trailer, we see a wide variety of characters and their new abilities, along with familiar enemies such as the Hive, the Fallen, and the Vex.

Destiny: Rising can also be played in first or even third person, with touch controls or controllers. There will be the usual campaign missions, cooperative raids for six players, and replayable PvE and PvP modes.

Destiny: Rising will be available first as a closed alpha test with limited access on November 1st in the United States and Canada. You can sign up for the trial version on the NetEase website.
