Free League Publishing used Gen Con 2026 to unveil The One Ring: The White Tower & Hall of Gold, a big new expansion for The One Ring tabletop RPG. It takes the game south, with new adventures set in Gondor and Rohan.
That means a southern Middle-earth expansion for Free League’s award-winning RPG, pushing the map past the ground covered in earlier material. It also fits what makes this game stand out in the first place: journeys, fellowship, hope, and the pull of shadow matter just as much as combat and treasure.
Free League had more than one announcement at Gen Con. The publisher also revealed Creatures Strange and Foul, a revised core rulebook, a BackerKit launch planned for September 2026, the expected Collector’s Editions, and two 5E companion books called Realms of the South and Of Orcs and Evil Things.
If you’re after a Middle-earth game that stays close to J.R.R. Tolkien, this looks worth picking up. Francesco Nepitello is still guiding the line with the same lore-faithful approach, built around original adventures rather than world-breaking heroics, and that choice has gone a long way toward building such a loyal following.
You’ll be able to follow the project on BackerKit in September 2026, and the timing makes sense. Interest in Tolkien is rising again across games, The Hunt for Gollum, The Rings of Power Season 3, and a new open-world RPG.
