Look, I dunno. Marvel knows that a large part of the money it can make from comics right now isn’t in sales, which only pick up every so often, but in the various brand deals with brands and people so they can show up in its comics in special one-shots. It’s what they did in the past with Doctor Who, Star Trek, or Archie, but this time they’ve really taken it one step further, because we’ve got a new X-Man in the house: chef José Andrés.
Make Mine Cook!
The chef will be the star of Meals to Astonish: The Avengers, which will be followed by another one where he’ll feed Spider-Man. The comic, of course, wasn’t written by the chef himself, but instead he entrusted it to Steve Orlando, who’s been collaborating with him for years. But he won’t just be cooking: on top of that, José Andrés will join Iron Man, Black Panther, Vision, Captain America, and the Scarlet Witch to take down Ultron.
Alongside him will also be Ferrán Adrià, Robert Egger, and Jacques Pepin, because of course they will. But it won’t stop there, because in 2027 we’ll see José Andrés dive headfirst into the Marvel Universe, but this time helping the mutants in a special issue of X-Men. Nothing says “this comic will be worth it” like seeing Wolverine eating soup with a little spoon.
In case you’re curious, these comics will also mark the first appearances of (oh dear) Venomnom and Spider-Ramen, while the good man, with Spidey’s help, faces off against Electro. I don’t really know who exactly buys this stuff, but if they’re putting it up for sale there must be a reason, I guess.
