Even if you are the biggest fan of the Borderlands saga, believe me: you don’t want to play the fourth part if it has to be in the way that Caleb McAlpine has already done it, a fan who got ahead several months before its release for a good cause by Gearbox. McAlpine is suffering from cancer and was afraid of dying before being able to try it.

A last wish

McAlpine, diagnosed with terminal stage 4 cancer, was given only seven to twelve months to live, at most two years if chemotherapy is effective. And, as an eternal fan of the saga, he turned to Reddit to ask for help: “I don’t know if I’ll be here when Borderlands 4 comes out. Is there anyone who knows how to get in touch with Gearbox to see if there’s any way to play the game early?“. Of course, the studio got to work: not only did they allow him to play, but he also got to tour the entire studio, from the developers’ offices to meeting Randy Pitchford himself.
