After so much back-and-forth, it’s been strange to see James Gunn sharing a video about how bright Skydance’s future will be, the mega-studio formed by Warner and Paramount. But of course, something must’ve had to give to keep his DC Universe after the failure of Supergirl and the predictable flop of Clayface.

In fact, Gunn is already writing the movie that will come after Man of Tomorrow. Well, actually he said “the project,” which could be season 3 of Peacemaker or something similar. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that it’s a movie that truly cements the DC Universe that we’ve barely been able to explore before we’re already fearing its swan song.
Man of Tomorrow will hit theaters on July 9, 2027, and after it there’s nothing officially in the works. Maybe at Skydance they’ve forced him to make his Batman movie right now, or maybe a Wonder Woman adaptation: something people can get excited about, instead of more films about side characters nobody cares all that much about.
At least the latest from DC really has been a success: Lanterns ended on a high note on HBO Max, and quite a few people are already demanding a second season. There is, surprisingly, a glimmer of hope for superhero movies… although Gunn seems to be playing against what the audience is asking for.
