Microsoft wants its new AI-based Windows Copilot to become your new universal assistant, which means the American company aims to strengthen its entire AI division with the usage and data from millions of users.
The issue Copilot faces is that it’s only available on Windows 11 and has been available for a very short time. As a result, there are very few users using the tool, and Microsoft cannot leverage it to make the assistant a more comprehensive and powerful application.
For this reason, and despite being told it was impossible, it now appears that the company wants to bring the AI assistant to Windows 10 as well.
Microsoft is planning to ship a new update to Windows 10 soon that will add Windows Copilot to the older OS:
This is, in some aspects, a bit surprising, especially considering the age of Windows 10. However, there are still over a billion Windows 10 users, so it makes a lot of sense for Microsoft to seize this opportunity to expand Copilot’s user base.
Windows 10 will reach the end of its support in less than two years: October 2025. Although it was assumed that Microsoft would only provide security updates and bug fixes until then, the company has already shown that it is not entirely opposed to incorporating new features into the operating system, such as the Windows Backup app.
The news shared by Windows Central assures that, according to sources close to the project and the company, Windows 11’s Copilot tool will indeed be added to Windows 10.
It is said that Copilot on Windows 10 will take the same form as in Windows 11, with the AI assistant being accessible through a taskbar button.
In addition to being highly beneficial for Windows 10 users, the vast user base in comparison to Windows 11 means that the move would also be hugely advantageous for Microsoft.
Expanding to Windows 10 would not only mean that the company could gather data from a larger number of users, but it would also help make Copilot a more appealing project for developers.
