Today is not a normal day. Today, Shadow of the Erdtree is released, the highly anticipated expansion of Elden Ring. After more than two years of development, From Software releases a downloadable content (DLC) version that could’ve been a standalone game itself, especially thanks to the large amount of content included.
If you are one of those people who are looking forward to playing Shadow of the Erdtree, the first thing you need to know is that the downloadable content is activated when you reach a key moment in the game. We explain here what you need to do to play Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. Warning: spoilers ahead.
Step 1: defeat two bosses
The first step to be able to play the Elden Ring DLC is to make significant progress in the base game’s story. In fact, you have to defeat two bosses that are not exactly low-level.
The first boss is Radahn, Scourge of the Stars, a real “beast” who has a powerful final attack. And the second boss is Mohg, Lord of Blood. Once you have defeated both, then you can move on to the next step.
Step 2: talk to a new NPC
After removing Radahn and Mohg from the equation, the second and final step is to go to the Grace that’s close to the boss Mohg. Once there – and make sure you have the expansion already installed – you’ll notice that a new NPC character will appear that you can speak with.
Approach this character, talk to him, and say yes to traveling to the new region. Once you do this, the game will take you to the Shadow of the Erdtree content.
As you can see, to play the expansion it’s necessary to advance quite a bit in the base game. In fact, it is recommended that you have an approximate level of between 100 and 150, so that your journey is not all uphill.
