Earlier this month, TikTok launched TikTok Music, a subscription-based music streaming platform, with which the popular social media network aims to compete directly with Spotify. However, instead of a global launch, TikTok has decided to roll out the platform gradually to gauge user response.
After its initial launch in Brazil and Indonesia, TikTok Music has expanded this week to include Australia, Mexico, and Singapore, where it will be available to users participating in the closed beta. To take part, users need to download the TikTok Music app from the website music.tiktok.com, or through Google Play or the App Store.
According to the websites in each region, the monthly subscription cost for TikTok Music is 11.99 Australian dollars (7.30 euros) in Australia, 115 Mexican pesos (6.14 euros) in Mexico, and 9.90 Singapore dollars (6.69 euros) in Singapore.
In addition to the individual plan, users can subscribe to a family plan or a student plan at a reduced price, similar to platforms like Spotify or YouTube.
The app allows users to import their music library, find songs by searching for their lyrics, download songs for offline listening, create collaborative playlists, and view real-time song lyrics.
Moreover, the platform includes a feature that enables song identification by listening through the phone’s microphone (similar to Shazam), and TikTok Music subscribers can leave comments and interact with other users.
“TikTok Music is a new kind of music service that combines the music discovery power of TikTok with a music streaming service offering millions of songs from thousands of artists,” a company spokesperson explained in a press release.
“We are currently testing the beta version of TikTok Music in Australia, Mexico, and Singapore, and we will have more news to share about the launch of TikTok Music in the coming months.”
As of now, the availability of TikTok Music in Spain remains unknown. Considering it is not yet available in the United States either, we might have to wait a little longer to experience TikTok‘s new music platform.
