Few people are unaware of what WhatsApp is today. Since its launch in 2009, the messaging application owned by Meta has been growing and currently, it can boast of having more than 2.78 billion active users. Now, one of its latest updates suggests that WhatsApp could introduce new features powered by artificial intelligence
A couple of weeks ago, we already saw how WhatsApp added new AI-based features, such as the integration of the virtual assistant Meta AI or artificially created stickers. Now, the application is testing a new feature that would allow us to generate profile pictures with artificial intelligence. The team at WABetaInfo was able to discover this functionality in the latest beta 2.24.11.17, as shown in this screenshot.

It seems that the option would be accessible from the pencil or edit section, located in the settings of the profile photo. As for its operation, it would be very similar to other applications like DALL-E or Midjourney. The user has to describe in words the type of image they want to obtain and then, the AI generates a profile photo according to that description.
The truth is that with Meta AI we could already do this. Currently, a user can generate images from the search bar itself, all thanks to the Meta assistant within WhatsApp. Then, the generated image can be saved on our device and if we want, use it as a profile picture. However, this tool would further simplify the process by doing everything in a direct and fast way.
It is still unclear when this option will be released to the public, but we know that it is planned for a future update of the application. For now, you can access the beta version of WhatsApp through the Google Play Store on Android.
