Bad Bunny has once again surprised his audience with a new hit that has nothing to do with what we are used to. The Puerto Rican singer has released Un x100to, a song that drinks from the Mexican cumba in conjunction with Grupo Frontera, one of the most amazing bands of the Central American country.

Grupo Frontera is a regional Mexican band that originated in the United States. Created in 2022, it is only a few months old, but its hits have already gone viral in Mexico. Grupo Frontera began as a hobby for a group of friends from the Valley of Texas, USA, with Mexican roots from Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas. At the beginning of 2022, the different musicians came together with the intention of making musical covers and uploading them to YouTube, and their intention was to recover traditional Mexican music, especially the country’s cumbia.
The group finally debuted in March 2022 with the cover of Estos Celos, an original song by the Mexican Joan Sebastián that went viral at the time and has several million views. Thanks to its classic rhythms brought to the 21st century, the group gained a large number of followers and reproductions on social networks. Thus, it quickly became one of the most followed bands in Latin America.
Just two months after this first hit, Grupo Frontera released a cover version of Morat’s No se va. According to the story, the idea of doing a cover of No se va was proposed by guitarist Beto Acosta, a Morat fan who thought that the song’s catchy rhythm could be easily adapted to a cumbia style. A curious anecdote of the moment is that the song ends in fade out because they were recording in a residential place late at night and had to run away.
No se va became their big hit, with hundreds of millions of views since its release. Thanks to this, Grupo Frontera made an impact around the world: it made it to the Billboard Hot 100 and among the most viewed on YouTube, reaching the top 15 of the Latin Streaming Songs.
