In 2014, one series caught the world by surprise like no other had in the years before: True Detective. After all, it was hard to resist the detective pairing of Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, whose characters still are, even now, part of television history. Years went by before the two got back together, and when they did the public got so excited… that they’ve had to rein them in.
They’re coming back, but not how you wanted!
12 years after its premiere, people still remember that first season of True Detective very fondly. That’s why, when it came out that Harrelson and McConaughey would be filming a new series together for Apple TV+, Brothers, we all thought of a spiritual sequel. However, according to Harrelson, it has nothing to do with that.
In this case, The Office producer Lee Eisenberg has put together a series in which they’ll play themselves, and after years of friendship they realize they really could be brothers. It’s not crazy, in fact: Harrelson’s father knew McConaughey’s mother shortly before he was born. Fiction, yes, but not by much.
“If you like True Detective and you want more, this isn’t it. I started thinking about this idea and thought it could be a pretty good series, we play fictionalized versions of ourselves, like in Curb Your Enthusiasm“. Fans of the HBO series are still waiting for season 5 to be announced, which has been in development for a couple of years, but now, on top of that, it also has both of its original leads back. We all win, don’t we?
