Yes, we can use Apple’s Intelligence from Europe: let us explain how

Apple Intelligence is here to completely change how we use our Apple devices. For now, in beta phase, the artificial intelligence from the Cupertino company will not reach Europe this year due to DMA regulations, and yet, the story goes a little further. As Apple announced, Apple Intelligence does not come to the iPhone or iPad, but nothing was ever said about the Mac.

So yes, we can use Apple Intelligence from Europe, all we need is a compatible Mac. With it, we will be able to access most of the new features, although not all, that are already available in the rest of the world. Let’s talk about all of this

What do we need to use Apple Intelligence from Europe?

The first requirement is to have a Mac that incorporates the Apple Silicon chip, as they are the only computers compatible with Apple Silicon. The second requirement is to have a developer account. It doesn’t have to be an Apple account, we can go to developer.apple.com, log in with our Apple ID from any European country, and get a developer account.

With this, we will be able to install the first beta of macOS Sonoma 15.1, which brings us Apple Intelligence. Simply open System Preferences, go to General, then to Software Update, in the dropdown menu above, select Beta Updates, choose macOS 15.1 and install it.

How to activate Apple Intelligence in Europe?

Once you have done the above, the only thing we need to do is make some changes in the Mac settings to be able to use Apple Intelligence. Here’s how to do it:

1. Open System Preferences: in the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
2. Change language and region settings: go to General and then to Language & Region. Here, change the region to United States. If prompted, also accept to change the language to “English (United States)”. If not, manually add it in the language section at the top and place it at the beginning of the list.
3. Restart the Mac: after making the changes, restart your Mac for the settings to take effect.
4. Enable Apple Intelligence: once the Mac is restarted, go back to System Preferences and navigate to Apple Intelligence & Siri. Here, select “English (United States)” as the language. Then, at the top, select Join Apple Intelligence Waitlist.
5. Wait for authorization: after requesting participation, it may take up to half an hour to receive approval. We will receive a notification once our access has been authorized.
6. Final activation: finally, from the same section in the settings, we can activate Apple Intelligence.

It should be noted that there are some Apple Intelligence features available on the iPhone and iPad that are not available on the Mac. The most notable one is the creation of memories from the Photos app. On the other hand, while the Reduce Distractions concentration mode is available on the Mac, its activation does not work on the iPhone and iPad, where it behaves like a Do Not Disturb mode.

That being said, with these simple steps, Mac users in Europe can access Apple Intelligence. Rewriting texts, correcting them, and much more is now just a click away. And, naturally, future beta versions will only enhance the performance and capabilities of Apple’s artificial intelligence.
