In late May, OpenAI announced the launch of its popular artificial intelligence, ChatGPT, on mobile devices. With overwhelming success in its web version, the company decided to venture into the mobile world, starting with iOS and stating that the Android version would be released “soon.”
The wait is almost over as OpenAI announced last Friday on its Twitter account that the Android version of ChatGPT will be released this very week. Along with announcing the availability of the popular AI on Android devices, OpenAI also confirmed the option for users to pre-register through the Google Play Store.

Whether it’s from the ChatGPT listing on the Play Store or directly from the app store’s homepage, users can now sign up for the ChatGPT reservation for Android. By doing so, users will receive a notification as soon as the app becomes available and will be able to install it automatically.

As seen in the screenshots posted on the ChatGPT listing on the Play Store, the Android app looks exactly like the iOS version, featuring a simple and intuitive interface that can be switched between light and dark mode (as is typical in mobile apps).
The official release of ChatGPT for both iOS and Android would significantly reduce the proliferation of third-party apps that fraudulently exploit the AI and its name, whether by monetizing the language model through advertisements or implementing microtransactions to unlock its features.
A highly anticipated release for users who frequently use ChatGPT. Microsoft, the main investor in OpenAI, took the lead and launched a mobile version of its new Bing, powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4 model, a few months ago.
