Days ago, we were already hearing how YouTube had begun to penalize the use of artificial intelligence on the platform. One of their new measures “required” users to label AI-generated content as such. Another measure involved providing tools to artists so they could request the removal of songs that used their voices artificially. Despite all this, YouTube harbors significant plans for AI and its uses within the music field.
Through its official blog, the world’s most famous video platform has announced its new project, born out of collaboration with Google DeepMind: Dream Track for Shorts. This marks one of YouTube’s initial forays into AI, and undoubtedly, it holds a lot of promise.
This new tool operates thanks to Lyria, Google DeepMind’s most advanced music generation model. As you can imagine, Dream Track will allow you to compose from scratch. You won’t need to have musical knowledge; you’ll simply choose the genre, duration, tempo, and instruments. Dream Track takes care of the heavy lifting for you. Additionally, the musical pieces generated through Dream Track can be freely used in your Shorts as they lack copyright.
For this “experiment,” YouTube collaborated with 9 heavyweight artists: Alec Benjamin, Charlie Puth, Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, John Legend, Papoose, Sia, T-Pain, and Troye Sivan. They were also responsible for selecting a small group of creators to test the Dream Track features firsthand.
Furthermore, YouTube has revealed they’re working on more sophisticated ideas, like creating music just by humming. For now, there’s no information on when these functionalities will be available for us to try ourselves.
