Takara Tomy says The Legend of Zelda: Historical Charms+ is coming to gachapon machines in Japan in October 2026. The release brings 12 Triforce-shaped metal charms, including A Link to the Past. And to head off the obvious confusion, this is merchandise, not a new game, remake, or remaster.
It expands the 2017 set and bumps the lineup up to 12 charms, priced at about 300 yen each, roughly $2. The full set covers The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II, Link’s Awakening, A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, The Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, and Echoes of Wisdom.
So if you’ve seen headlines hinting at a remake, that’s not what this is. Historical Charms+ is merch. The confusion makes some sense, though. A Link to the Past was the SNES Zelda for a lot of people: the Master Sword, the parallel worlds, the whole blueprint that 2D Zelda would keep building from. Nintendo’s 2004 sales data puts it at 4.61 million copies sold by that year, and it still feels like a reference point.
For Zelda collectors, this is an easy thing to want. What Nintendo still hasn’t announced, though, is an official A Link to the Past remake, despite years of people asking for one, a fan-made HD-2D reinterpretation, and the company’s wider habit of revisiting older games for newer players. In the meantime, the original is still there through the SNES library on Nintendo Switch Online. There’s no confirmed international release.
