Meta has introduced a new artificial intelligence device. Called Muse Charm, the device is designed to let us talk to Muse without needing glasses or other devices. After making Muse one of the most-downloaded apps in the United States, Zuckerberg wants to take interaction with AI outside the phone. Where others have already tried, let’s see what Meta has in mind.
A Tamagotchi for talking to Muse
The Muse Charm fits in the palm of your hand and has a 2-inch OLED screen where a customizable Muse character appears. It has cameras and microphones so Muse can understand what’s in front of us, speakers for its replies, and 5G and USB-C connectivity.
As reported by Bloomberg, the project started in the design lab led by Alan Dye, former head of interfaces at Apple. The Charm will arrive in December and its price would be similar to that of a smartwatch.
It is also arriving alongside smart glasses without cameras that, once again, are meant to let us interact with Meta’s AI. A version of the smart glasses that Meta launched a few months ago, but without the drawback of the cameras that have received so much criticism over privacy.
While Meta adds dedicated devices, most AI use is happening on phones, where we already have all our personal information and the apps we already use. With that in mind, it’s worth remembering how many other devices have wanted to revolutionize the way we interact with AI. The big question is how much space we want to devote to another screen when phone, watch, and earbuds are already our gateway to AI. We’ll see how the market responds.
