IO Interactive, the Danish studio known for its successful Hitman trilogy, has revealed its next ambitious project: 007 First Light. This new title will allow players to take control of a young MI6 agent, marking the first appearance of James Bond in video games in over a decade since the rights holders had restricted its use due to concerns about violence in the portrayal of the character.
A new era for Bond
The game, which is set to be released in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, focuses on a young naval pilot who joins the British security agency’s program. The innovative narrative promises to take players on an educational journey in their skills as spies. So far, the game’s presentation, revealed at Sony’s State of Play, has been described as spectacular, with gameplay that aims to provide a fresh experience within the Bond universe.
Players will have the option to approach missions in various ways, choosing between a stealthy style or brute force. This includes a variety of combat, from hand-to-hand fights to the use of weaponry. Additionally, the game will feature iconic vehicles and Q gadgets, thus allowing for a richer and more detailed experience where players can explore different strategies to tackle challenges.
For those interested in learning more about this new installment, IO Interactive has scheduled an extended event for June 7, where more information about the game’s development and features is expected to be revealed. Although additional details are still to be confirmed, anticipation is high, considering that 007 First Light could revitalize interest in the franchise within the video game industry.
