Amazon MGM Studios has officially greenlit a new live-action RoboCop series for Prime Video. And if you’ve seen a December 2026 date floating around online, that doesn’t seem to be tied to the show at all. That date appears to belong to a life-size RoboCop helmet replica, not a movie release or series premiere, and Amazon MGM Studios still hasn’t given the series an official debut date.
What has been confirmed is the shape of the project. Amazon says the show will run for eight episodes, with Peter Ocko attached as writer and showrunner. James Wan is executive producing through Blumhouse Atomic Monster, and 1987 RoboCop co-creators Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner are involved too, which gives this reboot a pretty direct line back to the original.
The premise sounds familiar in the way you’d expect: a tech conglomerate turns a fallen cop into a cyborg police officer. At the same time, reports have suggested the central character might be soldier Marc Kyle instead of Alex Murphy, with Murphy possibly showing up in a mentor role. None of that has been confirmed. There’s no cast yet, either, and the January 2027 filming start has only come up as a rumor.
If you care about RoboCop, this is one to keep an eye on. The strong response to RoboCop: Rogue City helped put some wind back in the franchise, and the reaction so far has been cautiously optimistic, especially after the sequels and the 2014 RoboCop remake landed to a much more mixed response. When Amazon MGM Studios finally announces a release date, Prime Video is where you’ll be able to watch it.
