A new Naruto anime is announced, but not the one you’d expect or want

Studio Pierrot has been hinting for years that they want to keep working on the Naruto anime. At least since 2023 it was confirmed that it was really happening and that it was only a matter of time before it was made official. The problem has been that, due to various circumstances, the project has been delayed, so it hasn’t even been officially announced. This has left fans of anime’s most famous ninja without any news. Until now. A new anime has been announced… and it wasn’t what anyone expected.

Not exactly a remake

Everyone was expecting Studio Pierrot to announce a Naruto remake, but what they’ve announced is a crossover with Ninku, the ninja manga that served as Masashi Kishimoto’s inspiration for creating Naruto. Alongside a spectacularly animated trailer, they’ve already made it clear that this new series will consist of four episodes and will tell an alternate story in which Team 7 will fall through a magic portal that will take them to the world of Ninku. While it doesn’t have a confirmed release date, it looks like it’ll premiere in 2027.

While Naruto fans aren’t thrilled by this announcement, it’s not the only thing Naruto has in the pipeline right now. With Destin Daniel Cretton’s live-action film series on the horizon, as well as Kishimoto’s promise to make a new Naruto manga, it seems fans have plenty to look forward to. Even if the idea of a remake of the original anime will still have to wait.
