Apple TV+ has decided to cancel the series Time Bandits, starring Lisa Kudrow, after a single season. Based on the 1981 cult classic directed by Terry Gilliam, the fantasy and science fiction series has failed to meet audience expectations or replicate the original film’s magic. Despite having a promising concept, the reception has not been sufficient to justify its continuation on the platform.

Developed by Jemaine Clement, Iain Morris, and Taika Waititi, the series aimed to modernize the story to appeal to a new generation of viewers. However, despite efforts to revive the plot, it has failed to make the expected impact among Apple TV+ subscribers.

The plot of Time Bandits follows Kevin (Kal-El Tuck), an 11-year-old boy who joins a group of thieves traveling through time and space, visiting all kinds of eras in an indeterminate manner. Kevin’s recruitment is justified; he is a history geek with a mission: to save his parents and, incidentally, the entire world. Unfortunately, this hopeful premise has not been enough for the platform to continue betting on it.
