Bluefly casts Russell Crowe and Priyanka Chopra Jonas: a military sci-fi thriller in the Congo

Bluefly stars Russell Crowe and Priyanka Chopra Jonas in a military sci-fi thriller built around a secret mission to recover an aircraft in the Congo. Production is slated to begin in late 2026 on Australia’s Gold Coast.

Nimród Antal, the filmmaker behind Predators, will direct Bluefly from a script by David Frigerio, William Eubank, and Carlyle Eubank. For now, a number of story details are still being kept under wraps.

Based on the early plot details that have been released, Bluefly follows a grieving United Nations translator who joins a black-ops team sent to recover a downed plane that doesn’t exist in official records. The mystery starts to thicken when the team begins to suspect the mission they were given isn’t the real one, which pulls Bluefly away from a plain war story and into a more concealed sci-fi thread.

Crowe and Chopra Jonas are the main names attached, though their roles haven’t been revealed and there still haven’t been any official statements. Still, if you’re into action thrillers with a genre hook, Bluefly looks like one to watch. It also keeps Crowe’s recent action streak going and adds another international title to Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ slate.

Production is set to start in late 2026 on Australia’s Gold Coast. Highland Film Group is handling global rights and will take the Bluefly package to buyers at the Toronto International Film Festival market, and the producers include Michael Jefferson, David Frigerio, Deborah Glover, and Vanessa Yao Guo.

House of the Dragon season 3 isn’t getting an HBO replacement next week

House of the Dragon season 3 isn’t getting an HBO replacement next week

Right now, House of the Dragon season 3 hasn’t been released, and the claims that HBO is about to replace House of the Dragon next week don’t hold up. If you’ve run into headlines saying House of the Dragon season 3 is somehow close to its finale, disregard them.

House of the Dragon season 2 ran for eight episodes, wrapped on August 4, 2024, and HBO renewed the show for season 3 in June 2024.

Reporting from December 2023 also said writing was already underway on House of the Dragon seasons 3 and 4, and that some material originally expected near the end of season 2, including a major battle, had reportedly been pushed into season 3. That helps explain both the shorter season and some of the confusion around the timeline.

If you follow House of the Dragon, here’s the part that matters: HBO still treats it as one of its main fantasy dramas. Fan reaction has been more divided on pacing than it was in season 1, even with some more positive recent commentary, and there hasn’t been any major reporting that a direct replacement is arriving next week. Lanterns is set for August 16, 2026, but that’s a different franchise, aimed at a different audience, with a different release window.

So yes, House of the Dragon is more likely to return later than get swapped out now, and you can still watch the existing seasons on HBO and Max.

Michael joins August 2026 movie releases: Oppenheimer streams next

Michael joins August 2026 movie releases: Oppenheimer streams next

Michael, the Michael Jackson biopic, is joining U.S. streaming lineups in August 2026. After a massive theatrical run, it lands on Starz on August 10.

In India, Michael is expected on Jio Hotstar on August 29. Across Europe, Asia, and Latin America, release dates still vary from market to market. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is also heading to streaming this month, starting in the U.S. on Peacock on August 16. The UK gets it through BBC iPlayer, and Netflix is expected to pick it up in a handful of markets, including Argentina, Colombia, and South Africa.

Michael gets there with real momentum. It became the first biopic to clear $1 billion worldwide, opened to $97.2 million in the U.S. and $217 million globally, and gave Michael Jackson’s catalog a major boost too, with U.S. on-demand streams reportedly jumping 146% during opening week.

There’s also been plenty of criticism around the film. Michael focuses on Jackson’s early life through the 1988 Bad tour and leaves out later controversies, including the child abuse allegations. Reports say scenes connected to the 1993 allegations were cut after reshoots.

If you’re picking out the biggest at-home movie releases for August, Michael and Oppenheimer are both easy choices. For The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, though, you’ll still need to buy a ticket and see them in theaters this month.

Pulp Fiction returns to Prime Video on August 1: Tarantino’s crime classic is back

Pulp Fiction returns to Prime Video on August 1: Tarantino’s crime classic is back

Pulp Fiction is heading back to Prime Video in the US on August 1, 2026, which puts Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 crime landmark back on a major streaming service. The film runs 154 minutes, and if you’re in the United States, you’ll be able to watch it there again. Outside the US, the rollout is still murky, so international viewers may have to wait for local confirmation.

Amazon Prime Video

There’s a reason Pulp Fiction still carries this kind of weight. Its scrambled timeline, bursts of stylized violence, deadpan humor, and endlessly quoted dialogue didn’t just make it memorable. They changed the shape of crime movies and gave 1990s indie cinema a real jolt.

The numbers still look wild. Made for less than $10 million, Pulp Fiction pulled in more than $210 million worldwide. It landed seven Oscar nominations, won Best Original Screenplay, and took the Palme d’Or at Cannes. It also helped bring John Travolta back into the spotlight, pushed Samuel L. Jackson and Uma Thurman even further forward, and still sits at 92% with critics and 96% with audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

If you’ve been waiting for Pulp Fiction, probably Tarantino’s most influential movie, to show up on a major platform again, this return to Prime Video is a pretty good excuse to revisit it.

You can stream Pulp Fiction on Prime Video in the US starting August 1. Tarantino’s back in the news, too, with Rosanna Arquette criticizing a racial slur in the film and reports saying The Movie Critic has been shelved.

Reacher Season 5 adds Amanda Ip and three more cast members before Season 4 debuts

Reacher Season 5 adds Amanda Ip and three more cast members before Season 4 debuts

Prime Video has added four more names to Reacher Season 5: Amanda Ip, Jay Baruchel, Kevin Durand, and Ciara Bravo. They’re joining Alan Ritchson’s series with production already in motion, after Ritchson said in July 2026 that filming had started, even though Reacher Season 4 still hasn’t premiered.

Amazon Prime Video
Amazon Prime Video Download

The Season 5 renewal came back in May 2026, which tells you how fast Prime Video is pushing ahead with one of its biggest action properties.

This next season adapts Lee Child’s 20th Jack Reacher novel, Make Me. It sends Reacher to Mother’s Rest for a darker mystery built around hidden crimes and a deep-web conspiracy, and the whole thing carries a more paranoid investigative mood than some of the show’s more straightforward action stories.

Amanda Ip, who viewers may recognize from Cross, is widely expected to play Michelle Chang, a former FBI agent turned private investigator and one of Reacher’s main allies in the book. Jay Baruchel’s casting stands out for another reason: he was originally lined up for Reacher Season 4, then stepped away because of a personal matter and was replaced by Christopher Rodriguez-Marquette.

If you’ve been keeping up with Reacher, this update matters because Prime Video is pretty clearly turning it into a larger franchise.

You can watch Reacher Season 4, based on Gone Tomorrow, on Prime Video starting August 12, 2026. Neagley follows on September 16, 2026.

Netflix’s Gyeongseong Creature is back: Season 2 jumps to 2024

Netflix’s Gyeongseong Creature is back: Season 2 jumps to 2024

Season 2 of Netflix’s South Korean horror thriller Gyeongseong Creature is now streaming, pushing the story from 1945 into 2024 and putting the show back in the conversation for its mix of creature-feature horror, romance, suspense, and political commentary.

Netflix
Netflix Download

Season 1 rolled out in two parts, on December 22, 2023, and January 5, 2024. It paired creature-feature terror with Japan’s occupation of Korea as the story followed a secret program of biological experiments on civilians that creates a monster. Viewers and critics also pointed to the show’s clear parallels with Unit 731.

Netflix treated Gyeongseong Creature like a major prestige release, backing it with a reported 70 billion won budget. That bet paid off: the series hit No. 3 on Netflix’s Global Top 10 non-English TV chart in just three days, pulled in 24 million viewing hours, and stayed in the global top 10 for five straight weeks, according to Netflix.

If you like horror that does more than fire off jump scares, this season is still easy to recommend even with the mixed reviews around pacing and some of the characters. Gyeongseong Creature folds together body horror, romance, suspense, and political commentary, and it keeps drawing your attention back to the real horrors of colonial rule and medical experimentation.

Both seasons of Gyeongseong Creature are streaming now on Netflix.

The Town surges up Netflix’s charts again, 15 years later

The Town surges up Netflix’s charts again, 15 years later

The Town has climbed back up Netflix’s charts, which is a pretty neat trick for a crime thriller that first landed in theaters in 2010. More than 15 years later, Ben Affleck’s film is back in front of viewers and back in the conversation.

Netflix
Netflix Download

A few headlines have put a lot of weight on Titus Welliver, but this is really a Ben Affleck movie through and through. Welliver plays detective Dino Ciampa in a supporting role. Affleck co-wrote it, directed it, and stars as Charlestown robber Doug MacRay, whose life starts to come apart after a heist puts pressure on him from both the police and his own crew.

It’s not hard to see why The Town is connecting again. The action is tightly staged, the writing is sharp, and the movie has real character drama under all the gunfire. There’s street-level tension, a few explosive set pieces that still land, and a cast that includes Jeremy Renner, Rebecca Hall, Jon Hamm, and Blake Lively. It also helps that streaming audiences keep showing up for crime thrillers, and several people in that cast are even bigger names now than they were back then.

This Netflix run feels less like a rediscovery and more like a return. The movie was already well established, with a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes, more than $154 million at the box office according to Box Office Mojo, and a single Oscar nomination at the Academy Awards for Jeremy Renner’s James “Jem” Coughlin. It also sits on that stretch of Affleck’s career between Gone Baby Gone and Argo.

If you’re in the mood for a solid thriller, The Town is still worth queuing up. What’s less clear, at least for now, is how big this revival really is. Most of the reporting has stayed focused on U.S. performance, with very little out there on international viewership, audience demographics, how much Netflix is promoting it, or any fresh comments from the cast or filmmakers.

You can watch The Town on Netflix.

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is out now: it opens with a Big Bang Theory callback

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is out now: it opens with a Big Bang Theory callback

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, the new The Big Bang Theory spin-off, premiered July 23, 2026 on HBO Max and puts the franchise back in Stuart Bloom’s hands, with Kevin Sussman returning to the role.

What really feels different here is how the show ties itself to The Big Bang Theory. Rather than opening like a familiar sitcom, it starts with a sequence that riffs on the original series’ signature intro and turns it into a running, self-aware joke, complete with episode-specific text, fourth-wall bits like “Spoiler Alert: Gary Dies,” and even Danny Elfman theme variations that make the credits feel like something you actually want to sit through.

The show also makes a pretty sharp break from the old multi-camera, laugh-track setup used by The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. This one goes with a single-camera sci-fi comedy style that some early viewers are already comparing to Rick and Morty, while Stuart Bloom, Bert Kibbler, Denise, and Barry Kripke get pulled through a full-on multiverse crisis. Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady, and Zak Penn created the series, and the first reviews have called it bold, weird, and original, even if a few critics aren’t convinced it’ll click with everyone.

If you’ve kept up with The Big Bang Theory, this spin-off is easy to recommend for the opening sequence alone, and Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is streaming now on HBO Max.

Sanctuary: Shattered Sun now has a free Steam demo

Sanctuary: Shattered Sun now has a free Steam demo

Enhearten Media released a free Steam demo for Sanctuary: Shattered Sun on July 21, 2026, giving players their first real look at the studio’s large-scale real-time strategy game ahead of its planned August 2027 launch.

Steam
Steam Download

The demo has been up on Steam since July 21, 2026, and it’s much closer to Supreme Commander and Total Annihilation than to anything you’d compare to an RPG. The setup is a huge Dyson Sphere battlefield, with combat across land, sea, and air, hundreds of units in play, a flow-based economy, and a style of strategy that leans more on positioning and big-picture decision-making than on constant micromanagement.

One of the clearest selling points is the superweapon system, which can change the map in a very literal way. You can freeze entire oceans, open up new invasion routes, and change how you defend territory or push outward. Early response has been strong. Steam currently shows a Very Positive rating, and the Kickstarter campaign that launched alongside the demo hit its funding goal in about two hours.

If you’ve been waiting for a modern RTS built around scale, systems, and spectacle, this demo is worth downloading. The Sanctuary: Shattered Sun demo is free on Steam right now, and the full game is set to include single-player, multiplayer, three launch factions (Earth Defence Alliance, the Chosen, and the Guard), plus DLC factions, Warfront seasons, and mod support.

Lost’s “The Constant” 18 years later: still its best episode

Lost’s “The Constant” 18 years later: still its best episode

Lost’s “The Constant,” Season 4, Episode 5 of ABC’s Lost, first aired on February 28, 2008. Eighteen years later, it still feels like the episode people point to when they talk about what the show could do, and it keeps showing up on lists of the greatest TV episodes ever made.

Disney+
Disney+ Download

Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof wrote it, and the premise is pure Lost: after exposure to electromagnetism, Desmond Hume’s consciousness starts jumping between 1996 and 2004. The episode doesn’t sand down the show’s dense mythology to make that easier. It leans into it, with Penny Widmore serving as Desmond’s “constant,” the one thing keeping him alive.

That’s what makes the phone call hit so hard. Desmond and Penny turn a knotted sci-fi setup into something simple and wrecking, the kind of emotional payoff that showed how Lost could take the strangest, most serialized story turns and still make them feel painfully human.

If you want the clearest case for why Lost mattered, start here. Time named it the best TV episode of 2008, IMDb still has it rated near perfectly, it reportedly pulled in about 15 million American viewers when it first aired, and it picked up three Primetime Emmy nominations after a story-breaking process that reportedly took five weeks.

Seen now, it feels like Lost at its creative high point. You can trace its impact through fan-theory culture, the rise of mainstream long-form TV, and even the show’s own later use of time travel. If you’re looking for it, it’s Lost Season 4, Episode 5.
