Batman: Knightfall Part 1 is now out on digital platforms, giving viewers Warner Bros. Animation’s version of DC’s hugely influential 1990s Knightfall storyline and kicking off what the studio has planned as a trilogy.
The film premiered at Annecy in June 2026 and, from the way Warner Bros. Animation has framed it, it’s being positioned as a major standalone DC event following the end of the Tomorrowverse and the Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy. In Part 1, Bane comes to Gotham, sets off a mass breakout at Arkham, and slowly grinds Batman down through exhaustion, isolation, patience, and strategy before their expected showdown.
Anson Mount voices Batman, while Michael Mando takes on Bane, and early reviews have leaned positive. Critics have singled out the darker tone, the faithfulness to the comics, the voice performances, and the action, though some have said the pacing is deliberate if you already know where the story is going.
If you’ve been waiting to see Knightfall get a serious animated adaptation, this one looks worth picking up, especially with Part 2 expected later in 2026 and the final chapter scheduled for early 2027 under Warner Bros. Animation’s current rollout plans. Warner Bros. still hasn’t released any sales or viewership numbers, and most of the early coverage has come out of North America and the UK.
