Boston Dynamics challenges Tesla with its new car mechanic robot

In a new video published a few hours ago, the humanoid robot Atlas from Boston Dynamics can be seen working autonomously in a demonstration space, sorting engine parts among numbered containers.
The company claims that Atlas does not need to be controlled by humans to perform its work, unlike Tesla’s Optimus robot which has been much talked about.
Atlas is now capable of being a warehouse or mechanic shop assistant
According to the video description, Atlas uses machine learning to detect changes in the environment and work on them. It also has a “specialized gripping policy” that helps it firmly hold objects, continuously estimating the state of what it is holding.
After receiving some locations to move the pieces, Atlas will start working without prescribed movements, choosing to perform the tasks autonomously.
Forget Optimus… Atlas reigns supreme:
Atlas can now move engine covers between containers and a dolly on its own.
It uses machine learning vision to detect objects and adjust to any changes around it—no human help needed.
In contrast, it is said that Tesla’s Optimus robots receive remote human assistance despite their claims of autonomy. The Optimus robots were at a live event and, when asked, they responded that they received assistance.
The video shows Atlas sorting and moving engine parts to designated places. It does well, transporting them without much clumsiness. After placing a part in a container, the robot repeats the process with other parts. Let’s remember that they will start using them in BMW factories.
The Atlas robot has undergone many changes since its introduction in 2013, including the switch from a hydraulic to an electric system after nearly 11 years of testing. The old Atlas and the current one are very different from each other, and its evolution demonstrates where the robotics sector is heading.
