BYD has officially launched the e7, a midsize electric sedan positioned to shake up the market with an initial price tag of 103,800 yuan (approximately $14,500).
This cost is significantly lower than the base model of the Tesla Model 3 in China, which starts at 235,500 yuan ($32,700), making the e7 an attractive option for budget-conscious consumers.
The e7 boasts two battery options, offering either a 48 kWh or a 57.8 kWh battery, which provide an impressive CLTC driving range of 450 km and 520 km, respectively.
New BYD e7 Offers Impressive Driving Range with Budget-Friendly Prices
This range, while solid, falls short compared to the Model 3’s maximum CLTC range of up to 634 km (about 394 miles). Nevertheless, BYD’s new entry is likely to appeal especially to younger drivers and taxi services, who are looking for an economical and efficient vehicle.
Measuring 4,780 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and with a height of 1,515 mm, the e7 is comparable in size to the Tesla Model 3. Visually, it features a distinctive design with a “smiling” front face, full-score LED headlights, and unique rear styling elements, including a duck tail.
Inside, the e7 sports a relatively minimalist interior equipped with a central 15.6-inch infotainment screen and an ergonomic driver display, reflecting BYD’s commitment to creating an “ingeniously crafted comfortable cockpit.”
While the e7 is part of BYD’s e-series, targeting lower-priced markets, it will also be integrated into the Ocean series alongside popular electric vehicles like the Dolphin and Seagull. As BYD positions the e7 as the “winner’s choice” in the midsize EV segment, it signifies a continued push towards affordability and accessibility in electric mobility.
