BYD has officially entered the ultra-luxury electric vehicle market with the launch of the Yangwang U7 sedan, priced significantly lower than anticipated at 628,000 yuan (approximately $87,700).
This striking model is designed to challenge established luxury brands like Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz, offering a blend of cutting-edge technology and impressive performance.
The U7 is powered by an astounding four electric motors, generating nearly 1,300 horsepower, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in just 2.9 seconds.
BYD’s Yangwang U7 Aims to Compete With Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz
With dimensions that slightly surpass those of the Porsche Panamera, measuring 5,265 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width, and 1,517 mm in height, the U7 establishes a commanding presence on the road.
One of the standout features of the U7 is its advanced DiSus-Z body control system, designed to stabilize the vehicle during various driving conditions.
Additionally, the car boasts BYD’s “God’s Eye” A advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS), which integrates multiple sensors—three lidars, five radars, and 13 high-definition cameras—to enable Level 2 autonomous driving capabilities, including the Navigate on Autopilot function.
The U7 is equipped with a robust 135.5 kWh BYD Blade battery, offering a remarkable range of up to 720 km (approximately 447 miles), and supports fast charging that fills the battery from 30% to 80% in under 20 minutes. Buyers can choose between fully electric and plug-in hybrid variants, with the electric model providing an economical entry into the luxury electric sedan market.
This strategic move follows the successful launches of the Yangwang U8 off-road SUV and the U9 electric supercar, further showcasing BYD’s ambition to expand beyond affordable electric vehicles into the high-end automotive sector.
