In the top we made the other day about Mad Max we made it quite clear that, despite not being the best in the saga, Furiosa is on par with the main trilogy, and it is undoubtedly a movie that has generated expectation among fans of George Miller’s franchise. However, it is not achieving the expected numbers by Warner Bros.
As announced by Discussing Film, the movie opened with 31 million dollars nationwide in its opening weekend, far from the expectations. It is worth remembering that it cost 168 million dollars —plus additional promotion expenses—, so everything seems to indicate that, at most, it will match its initial budget.
The latest Mad Max movie?
The data for Furiosa is so bad that it has set a record: the worst Memorial Day weekend in almost three decades. Memorial Day is a national holiday in the United States that studios take advantage of to release big blockbusters, as people go to the movies in mass. Last year, for example, it served as the premiere of Fast X.
This year everything seemed to be in the hands of Furiosa: from the Mad Max saga, since the only similar commercial release is Garfield. However, Miller’s film has not lived up to expectations and has become, at least for now, an almost unprecedented failure. We will see how the situation progresses, as the reviews are very good and they may end up balancing the scales… but it doesn’t seem to look very promising.

It should be remembered, in fact, that Mad Max: Fury Road was not a box office hit on the level of Barbie. Although it grossed over 300 million on a budget of 150, we are not talking about a Marvel release either. And that means we may end up without more Mad Max in the future.
