The prelude to the Oscars, as the Golden Globes have always been known, took place last night. Smiling faces, red carpets, lots of press, and a bunch of awards. 2023 begins to receive the well-deserved awards for a brilliant year on the small and big screen.
To start, Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan’s epic about the nuclear era and its unlikely worldwide success, won the latest award at the 2024 Golden Globes, taking home the prize for Best Drama Film, as well as awards for Nolan, composer Ludwig Goransson, and stars Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr.
This puts the film in an even stronger position as the Oscar voting begins this week, but it’s not the only film with a lot to celebrate.
Poor Things won two important awards, including Best Cinematic Comedy and Best Actress for its protagonist, Emma Stone. The Holdovers received two acting awards for its protagonists Paul Giamatti and Da’Vine Joy Randolph.
And perhaps the most surprising double winner of the night was Anatomy of a Fall, the French film that won the award for Best Foreign Language Film, as well as Best Screenplay for director Justine Triet and her screenwriter and husband, Arthur Harrari.
In television, three series dominated: The Bear in comedy, Succession in drama, and Beef in limited series. The only exception was Elizabeth Debicki, who won a supporting actress trophy for The Crown.
To review the best and worst moments of the night, here you can check the complete list of winners in the film section, the series will be in another article because they don’t fit, there are too many:
