Apple’s iPhone 17 was the world’s best-selling smartphone in Q2 2026. The iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Pro followed right behind it, giving Apple the top three spots, according to analysts.
The numbers back that up. The regular iPhone 17 led the quarter with 6% of global sales, ahead of both the iPhone 17 Pro Max and the iPhone 17 Pro. That happened even as worldwide smartphone shipments dropped 11% from a year earlier, marking the weakest second quarter the market has seen in 13 years. Apple, meanwhile, still managed to grow unit sales by 5%, analysts said.
The market is getting more concentrated, too. Only Apple and Samsung phones made the global top 10, and together those models accounted for 26% of all sales, up 2 percentage points year over year. Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra landed in fourth place and was the best-selling Android phone of the quarter, analysts said.
Analysts tie the iPhone 17’s momentum to a couple of things: better upgrades on the base model, and stable pricing at a time when a memory chip shortage pushed competitors’ costs, and then their prices, higher. Smaller brands took the hit hardest. Xiaomi, OPPO, and vivo all posted double-digit shipment declines.
If you’re thinking about upgrading, the iPhone 17 looks like a solid pick. Apple also posted strong growth in India, Japan, the Middle East, and Africa, and sales in South Korea nearly doubled, according to analysts. Country-by-country detail is still limited, though, and there isn’t much fuller breakdown yet on the Galaxy S26 side either.
