Return to the Past

The new anime, titled Armored Trooper Votoms: Die Graue Hexe (The Gray Witch), promises to revive this classic series that has maintained a cult following over the years. Although a brief teaser has been presented, the details on whether it will be a reboot or a continuation of the original story are still uncertain. However, the collaboration of Production I.G. in its production suggests that important steps are being taken to pay tribute to the rich history of the franchise.

The original series followed a soldier caught up in a dark military conspiracy, and throughout its run, the franchise expanded with numerous specials until 2011. After a prolonged period of 15 years without new content, the confirmation of this new project is hopeful news for fans of the mecha genre.

In addition to this project, Oshii is also working on an adaptation of the Chimera novels by Baku Yumemakura, although its release is expected to be later in the future. Oshii’s extensive career and versatility ensure that he will continue to shape the direction of anime in the years to come.
