Marvel Comics dropped Midnight Spider-Man #1 on October 7, 2026, kicking off a horror-heavy reworking of Peter Parker’s origin as part of the publisher’s new Midnight Universe.
The issue launched that same day with Midnight X-Men and Midnight Fantastic Four. Here, Midnight Spider-Man #1 throws 17-year-old Peter Parker into a grim cyberpunk setting where his parents were killed in an Oscorp-connected incident, Uncle Ben is already locked in a wrongful death case against Oscorp, and Peter, without telling Ben, signs an Oscorp contract after Felicia Hardy, now Oscorp’s Vice President of Talent Relations, sells it to him as their way out of constant money trouble.
That choice turns Uncle Ben’s death from the usual distant tragedy into something immediate, ugly, and hard to shake. A genetically altered Oscorp spider comes home in Peter Parker’s backpack and bites Ben, setting off graphic swelling, physical deterioration, and bleeding. The book also replaces Spider-Man’s familiar lesson about responsibility with Richard Parker’s much darker warning that “power makes monsters.” Phillip Kennedy Johnson, ScieTronc, and Neeraj Menon are pushing deep into body horror here, pulling from Cronenberg, Carpenter, manga, and Japanese horror, with Peter Parker headed toward a merger with the spider that turns him into a human-spider hybrid.
If a darker Spider-Man sounds like your thing, this first issue looks like an easy pickup, especially since Marvel says the line passed 1 million orders, second printings were announced before release, and early reactions have already picked this one out as a top seller.
Midnight Spider-Man #1 is out now wherever Marvel Comics are sold.
