‘Narnia’ may be in trouble: apparently, no one at Netflix likes it

To say that the first trailer for Narnia, the new adaptation of CS Lewis’s novels directed by Greta Gerwig, has caused controversy, is like saying that World War II was a schoolyard fight. Everyone has an opinion, the fans are angry (well, many of them were already angry because of Barbie) and Netflix, for now, has spent $280 million making it. So, one way or another, it has to succeed.

Many of us prefer to believe that people are being very over the top and that, really, Narnia will have a lot of the genius of the creator of Lady Bird. However, the first rumors aren’t very encouraging, and there are already sources who have openly stated that “everyone at Netflix thinks the movie is hideous. It’s a real problem”, which they compare to A Wrinkle in Time, that fatal Netflix mistake. Oof.

In fact, they say that after the first internal screening, “when the lights came up, the air went out of the room. No one wanted to talk. The reaction to that screening made Netflix ask for reshoots, and a third source indicated that Narnia wouldn’t be the first time Gerwig needed help in post-production to find her movie”.

Apparently, “Gerwig tried to get out of Narnia after the runaway success of Barbie, but Netflix, rightly, didn’t let her. After all, they had the hottest director around. But I don’t expect her back for the Narnia sequel, if there is one”. It’s also true that the person who’s been spreading the rumors is Jeff Sneider, who’s not exactly famous for being the most reliable source. We’ll see. Just in case, be prepared for a monumental flop.
