From Madrid to nothing: Mario Kart Tour is over!

‘Mario Kart’ closes its latest great project, ‘Mario Kart Tour’ perhaps opening up to, finally, that ninth part for Switch… or its successor.

There’s a game that has managed to break through the walls of hardcore gaming and become part of popular culture. Phrases like “You get hit by a shell” or “Watch out for the banana” are notably popular on any road trip worth its salt. Now, Mario Kart‘ is concluding its latest major project, ‘Mario Kart Tour,’ perhaps paving the way for that long-awaited ninth installment for the Nintendo Switch… or its successor.

Luigi wins!

Since ‘Mario Kart Tour’ was launched on September 25, 2019, it has received all sorts of free updates every fifteen days, constantly changing the game to prevent it from becoming stagnant. Among the extra tracks, we’ve had locations like Madrid, Rome, and Athens, among other places we never thought we’d see invaded by Goombas and other Mushroom Kingdom creatures.

So, there are two tours left: the anniversary tour starting on November 20, and the battle tour starting on October 4. After that, they will begin to replay the best tours, starting with a special Halloween tour. Additionally, ‘Mario Kart Tour’ will abandon the gacha game model and sell items in a dedicated in-game store.

Not all of Nintendo’s attempts to conquer the mobile game market have been successful, that’s for sure. Titles like ‘Miitomo,’ ‘Dragalia Lost,’ or ‘Dr. Mario World’ no longer receive updates, and since 2021, Nintendo hasn’t tried its luck with a new mobile game release. During that time, they released ‘Pikmin Bloom,’ a kind of ‘Pokémon Go‘ spinoff based on the popular Nintendo game, but it hasn’t had much impact.

It’s possible that the Japanese company has decided to focus on what truly works for them, console titles, or that they are simply regrouping to come back with a ‘Mario Kart Tour 2’ or a similar application. After all, who can resist the idea of driving a kart with Yoshi through Madrid‘s Plaza Mayor?

Nintendo has confirmed what we all feared: Mario Bros. Wonder is not voiced by Charles Martinet

When we learned that Charles Martinet, the voice that has played Mario for 30 years, was saying goodbye to his most iconic role, Nintendo had to…

Many of us felt hurt and betrayed when Nintendo announced to the world that Charles Martinet would not continue to voice the world’s most famous video game plumber, Super Mario Bros.

The reason has not been disclosed, but we assume it could be because of Charles’ age, who is nearing 68, or because the Japanese company believes it’s time for a transition due to the overwhelming success of the Super Mario Bros. movie.

However, what everyone was wondering was whether Nintendo had already bid farewell to Charles Martinet or if they were going to let him do one final job with Super Mario Bros. Wonder to say goodbye to the audience. We now have the answer.

The new voice actor will be in Super Mario Bros. Wonder

Nintendo has confirmed that the new voice actor for Mario will be revealed in the credits of the upcoming game Super Mario Bros. Wonder. There won’t be any official announcement before the game’s release.

Doug Bowser, the president of Nintendo of America, reiterated this information in an interview with IGN at Nintendo Live. He stated that the identity of the new voice actor would be revealed in the game’s credits and that there would be no advance announcement.

Bowser also mentioned that Charles Martinet, the previous voice actor for Mario, was excited about his new role and would continue to represent the Mushroom Kingdom.

Saying goodbye to Mario Bros also means saying goodbye to Charles Martinet.

But Charles Martinet still doesn’t know what he will do as an ambassador

It seems that Martinet himself is not sure about the details of his new ambassadorial role. The legendary voice actor mentioned to the audience that he is still learning the responsibilities it entails and will discover them alongside the fans.

“Now I am, you may have seen in the news, Ambassador of Mario,” Martinet told the present fans. I still don’t know what that is. I’m not retired, so to speak. I don’t know how… but I am an Ambassador. And as we move forward into the future, I will learn exactly what that means,” concluded the charismatic Charles.

End of an Era: Three Decades Later, Mario Bros. Takes Its Final Bow

The most famous voice actor in the world of video games says goodbye to the role that has elevated him for life. Charles Martinet is Mario Bros. and…

For me, Mr. Charles Martinet is Mario Bros. And not because he physically resembles him, far from it. It’s because for 27 years, he has lent his voice to the Nintendo plumber, and his joy has accompanied us in every release, every game, and every video.

After 27 years of voicing Mario, Charles Martinet, the iconic voice behind the character, will be stepping away from the role, as announced in a Nintendo tweet.

Martinet took on the role in 1996’s Super Mario 64 and has provided the character’s voice in numerous games since then, including pivotal Mario titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario Galaxy, as well as countless spin-offs.

“Charles will now take on the new role of Mario Ambassador. With this new transition, he will no longer be recording character voices for our games,” reads Nintendo’s statement.

“It has been an honor to work with Charles in bringing Mario to life for so many years, and we want to thank him and celebrate it.”

Mario’s movie was the beginning of it all

“While he’s a fixture in video game history, Martinet’s absence as Mario’s voice was felt in the blockbuster Super Mario Bros. Movie, which premiered earlier this year. Chris Pratt took on the role there.

Speculation also arose about Martinet possibly not reprising his role as Mario in the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Wonder, set to release on October 20th, where Nintendo has yet to confirm anything. This could potentially mark his significant farewell.”

As players, we’re going to miss Charles Martinet for numerous reasons. First and foremost, he’s been an exceptional performer, with a personality and talent that transformed the voice of the character Mario Bros. into the most recognizable protagonist across the entire industry.

Secondly, it’s because he’s a kind, polite, friendly, and passionate individual. All the professionals who have crossed paths with him over these three decades affirm it: Charles Martinet is and will always be Mario Bros. No matter what comes next.

Race around in Amsterdam on Mario Kart Tour!

Goedenmiddag!! Yes, we’re learning Dutch as we prepare to race around the new Amsterdam track on Mario Kart Tour. The latest Amsterdam Drift presents pleasant scenery from the city, as well as a new vehicle to claim your next win. There’s even a new character!

The Amsterdam Tour is now available on smartphones, which means you can celebrate King’s Day with a race on April 27th. There’s a new Flower Kart with pink rims and purple wheels, while you can find flowers and other pastel decorations on the vehicle. The seat is adorned with massive petals, which looks completely comfortable to race in on your phone.

Rosalina is the race character on Mario Kart Tour that loves the Amsterdam track. She presents a beautiful Dutch smile with a white bonnet and a delightful dress that fits neatly into the vehicle. Of course, the character comes with several lines of comments as you beat your opponents on the track. What we love is that the Flower Kart is specifically designed for her.

While the main focus is on Amsterdam, there are iconic landmarks from other cities. For example, the windmills are from Zaandam, a popular location on the outskirts of the famous Dutch city. Rosalina also looks quite comfortable on the tractors we’ve seen in the game, and she won’t mind using those big wheels to shove players aside.

If you’ve raced the Rosalina Cup, you’ll notice that the Amsterdam Tour has been added to the list of locations. It starts with Amsterdam Drift, then moves to Rosalina’s Ice World R/T and Amsterdam Drift R/T before ending with the Ring Race. So it’s not just a new addition to Mario Kart Tour, but is incredibly integrated with the rest of the game elements.
