It turns out that, for Halloween, the trendy Roblox minigame has added a few costumes and themes as an excuse. One of them, if you log in right now, will be a very cute and fun cupcake. The problem is that until a few days ago it was a hot dog that, indeed, could be shaped like… male genitals. And you might think it’s silly, but the truth is that hundreds of thousands of people play Dress To Impress continuously and simultaneously, so, like it or not, it’s important to safeguard the children.
Just an update in case you haven’t already seen. The hotdog costume will be temporarily removed from DTI due to inappropriate usage. We plan to bring it back later with limitations on how you can colour it/couple it with other items to reduce this.
And the fact is that teenage players (and adults, let’s not deny it) only had to change the color of the little dog to a flesh color and add a pink or brown hat… and the mess was already made. Roblox, however, has announced that it will release it again in the future with color restrictions and additions that can be put on it. Among all the online games out there, two of them stand out as favorites among kids worldwide: Fortnite and Roblox. In both games, players can earn various in-game items or skins for their characters by completing challenges or purchasing them with real money. And here lies the key to a series of scams that are currently taking place.
As Wired has found out, there are numerous fraudulent websites posing as government websites (with domains like “.gov” or “.org”) to carry out different scams that exploit the popularity of Fortnite and Roblox and the naivety of some of their players, including minors.
According to the investigation, these websites use a series of search terms related to Fortnite and Roblox to deceive their potential victims, primarily by offering free content. As is common with other scams, cybercriminals end up stealing victims’ data and even using their credit cards.
“This group is what I would consider the number one in terms of compromising infrastructure on the Internet and hosting scams and other types of exploits,” said Zach Edwards, Director of Threat Intelligence at Human Security.
The scams use search terms like “V-Bucks,” the currency of Fortnite, or “Robux,” the currency of Roblox, to direct victims to seemingly official websites, including their domains. Upon entering, users are prompted to open what is known as a “poisoned PDF,” which can infect the victim’s device with malware and steal their login credentials.
So, remember: if you want to earn money for your favorite games, always obtain it through legal means and from their official websites. You could end up losing much more than you would gain by cheating.

Just in case you haven’t heard, FIFA has split from EA. More to the point, EA has elected to terminate its partnership with FIFA due to differences regarding the contract. EA, then, set out to create the next major football experience after FIFA 23, which will be called EA Sports FC from 2023 onwards. In response or, more likely, retaliation, FIFA’s head honcho, Gianni Infantino, insisted that ‘the only authentic, real game that has the FIFA name will be the best one available for gamers and football fans.’
This statement could be seen as abrasive, given that EA has developed the entire EA FIFA franchise. However, Infantino has a plan to contend with one of the biggest and most successful video game developers in the industry’s history. Whether it’s a good plan or not is yet to be seen.
Part one of Infantino’s plan is to launch a number of ‘non-simulation games.’ The first of which is this new Roblox title. However, Infantino has stated that FIFA is already engaged in talks with publishers, investors, and studios for the first instalment of the new FIFA football franchise.

Walmart Land is a little different, resembling a sort of open-world adventure-type setup organized into different islands. Each island has its own gimmick, such as Electric Island where players will be able to experience an interactive ode to the world’s most incredible music festivals. Included in this specific experience is Netflix Trivia, a piano walkway inspired by Big, and a DJ booth where they’ll be able to master different ways to mix beats.
From October onwards, Electric Island will also be home to Electric Fest, a motion-captured concert set to feature pop sensations the likes of Madison Beer and YungBlud. Players will also be able to visit the House of Style, an experience for fashion-focused players where they’ll get to roleplay in a virtual dressing room as well as compete in different challenges. Strike-a-pose will see players putting their best foot forward against other competitors. The experience will also feature a cosmetics-themed obby or obstacle course, and a roller rink decorated with products from various famous beauty brands.
William White, Walmart’s Chief Marketing Officer is optimistic about the move, stating that: ‘We’re showing up in a big way — creating community, content, entertainment and games through the launch of Walmart Land and Walmart’s Universe of Play. Roblox is one of the fastest-growing and largest platforms in the metaverse, and we know our customers are spending loads of time there. So, we’re focusing on creating new and innovative experiences that excite them, something we’re already doing in the communities where they live, and now, the virtual worlds where they play.’
At the end of the day though, these experiences are likely more about increasing the company’s bottom line by hooking future customers sooner, rather than creating ‘content’ for younger generations to enjoy.
