“Snapchat will take advantage of Gemini’s robust multimodal capabilities in Vertex AI […] to offer more attractive and innovative features to the Snapchat community through My AI,” Google said in a press release.
For example, users will be able to ask My AI to translate a photo of a traffic sign in a foreign country or ask the chatbot to select the healthiest option from a menu. After integrating Gemini into My AI, Google has announced that user interaction with Snapchat’s chatbot has increased by more than 2.5 times in the United States.
“This partnership with Google Cloud reinforces everything that is so important to serve our community,” said Evan Spiegel, CEO of Snap. “Snap is about giving people the ability to express themselves, live in the moment, learn about the world, and have fun together. Snapchat has announced a new AI-powered video generation tool aimed at content creators. During its annual partner summit, the company revealed that this feature will allow creating videos from text messages, and soon, also from images. According to Snap, its parent company, the beta version of ‘Snap AI Video’ is already available on their website, but only for a small group of creators.

The company has clarified that it has no immediate plans to expand access to this tool beyond this select group. Although not many details were shared during the presentation, a Snap spokesperson told TechCrunch that the system is based on Snap’s own video models.
‘We know it’s important for our community to be informed when AI is used to generate content,’ said Ceci Mourkogiannis, Vice President of Product at Snapchat, also confirming that every AI-created video will carry a visible watermark, even when downloaded or shared. Additionally, Snapchat emphasizes that its models have undergone rigorous testing to prevent the creation of harmful content.

Additionally, you will now be able to generate custom clothing for your Bitmoji using AI, and AI Lenses will allow you to create a 90s Polaroid-style version of yourself with just a selfie.
But that’s not all, because you will also have the possibility to send emoji reactions to friends who share their location with you on Snapchat during a trip or when arriving at work. These new features are already available, although the message editing function for Snapchat Plus subscribers “will be coming soon,” according to Snapchat.
Snapchat has launched a new advertising option called “sponsored AR filters”. From now on, brands can sponsor augmented reality (AR) filters in the app that users can add to their posts and that allow companies to create brand overlays for images, with the possibility of including links to advertising campaigns.
Thanks to this new feature, brands will not have to invest a lot of time and money to create a sponsored filter, as opposed to a full AR experience, since they will be able to upload existing assets and create filters from Snapchat’s template library.
“Without the need for external production costs, advertisers can effortlessly create sponsored AR filters in less than 10 minutes using Lens Web Builder, a free DIY tool for creating Filters and Lenses,” says Snapchat in a blog post. “This allows budget-conscious brands to participate without the expense of traditional production and graphic script creation.”
Lens Web Builder includes a series of templates for facial filters, location-based overlays, countdown timers, quiz generators, and much more, offering many opportunities to create simple and attractive overlays for advertising campaigns on Snapchat.
However, the filters are displayed after capturing the content, which makes them a less interactive experience than Snapchat‘s classic augmented reality filters, and could make them less interesting for the audience. Still, it remains another way to increase exposure in the app and connect with Snapchat users in a more enjoyable way than with traditional ads.
The company claims that brands can boost their visibility on Snapchat through in-stream CTA filters. Additionally, filters can also act as a complement to Lenses, applied after capture.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: artificial intelligences are here to stay. What is arguably the biggest technological revolution of the decade (and possibly the century) is advancing rapidly, and AIs are becoming increasingly present in our lives.
One of the many examples is found in My AI, a chatbot launched by snapchat in February and powered by the popular ChatGPT that allows us to talk to a virtual friend while using the snapchat app, as if we were talking to another of our contacts. Since the app was launched for the entire public, its use has been increasing, and snapchat wants (of course) to take advantage of the situation.
As? Including advertising in the chatbot. The idea is not new, since in May snapchat announced that it would begin testing sponsored links in My AI, but the most striking thing about this whole matter is that the company’s new advertising partner is none other than the giant Microsoft.
Through an API called “Ads for Chat,” Microsoft Advertising will allow advertisers to reach potential customers when they interact with My AI on Snapchat. The process is quite simple: a user asks the chatbot, for instance, about a place to have dinner, and it responds with a sponsored link.
Thanks to Microsoft’s Ads for Chat API, which is based on the same technology as the new Bing, advertising partners can control and customize the ad experience. They can choose the ad formats they believe are most suitable for their audiences and integrate them in a way that appears native in the user experience when using the chatbot.
It’s been two years since Snapchat announced that it wanted to become one of the biggest gaming destinations in the business. The focus is now shifting to augmented reality, revenue growth, and community development. If any projects aren’t connected to these three elements, they need to go.
I haven’t been on Snapchat in years, as I find the app rather pointless. Little did I know there’s been so much development in the background since then, adding more features. Not that it piques my interest to reinstall it, but the games portion may have made me reconsider.
While this new move towards no game development and employee lay-offs are sad, Snapchat believes it will save about $500 million in light of the latest drop in market shares. Perhaps the company, like so many others, was too ambitious and bit off more than it could chew. We’ll have to see if users feel any loss at the decision for no more games.
Other features are still proceeding, such as the dual-camera tool on Snapchat where you can use both the front and back cameras. Also, I believe it’s continuing with the Snap Map feature development.

The new feature offers users four perspectives for their double pictures, which are: Picture in Picture, Vertical, Horizontal, and Cutout. According to Snapchat, these new types of photos will also work with other Snapchat creative tools such as music, stickers, and lenses.
Of the new Dual Camera update, Snap says:
“With one simple tap, you can start creating Snaps and Stories, or more polished Spotlight videos, with double the perspective. The feature has already started rolling out to iOS users who will simply need to look out for the new Dual Camera icon once they’ve updated their version of Snapchat. Android users will have to keep an eye out for the update, however, which is due to roll out in the coming months.
Once again, this is a cool update from Snapchat that feels like it should have been rolled out years ago. It is funny to think that millions of dollars have been spent developing 360 cameras and all Snapchat has done is take advantage of technology that almost everybody already owns. Sure, the pictures won’t offer full 360-degree images, but the average user isn’t really looking to take those types of photos anyway.
