Apple kills off one of its most special services just two years later

After two years in operation, Apple will definitively eliminate one of its most peculiar plans.

After two years in operation, Apple will permanently eliminate one of its most unique plans. Specifically, the casualty in this whole story has been Apple Music Voice, one of the options we had for enjoying Apple Music. Introduced in 2021, Apple Music Voice allowed you to access the entire Apple Music catalog through Siri, the voice assistant found on devices like the iPhone or HomePod.

The charm of Apple Music Voice lay in its ability to let you access the entire Apple Music catalog for €4.99 per month, using only Siri. Users could interact with Apple’s assistant as if it were a DJ, requesting songs with voice commands. Apple Music Voice allowed you to play music on HomePod, iPhone, Mac, or AirPods.

As of last Wednesday, Apple Music Voice is no longer listed among the existing plans of Apple Music, where the Student, Individual, and Family plans are still active. Apple states on its support page that automatic renewal will be disabled for anyone subscribed to this plan. Once the subscription cycle ends, users will no longer have access to Apple Music.

In this way, the Student tier becomes the cheapest option currently available to enjoy the music service. Apple raised the prices of the Student plan in June 2022. Later, the rest of the plans followed the same steps in October 2022.

If you’re looking for a similar alternative, you’re in luck. Amazon still offers its Amazon Music Unlimited service, which allows you to listen to music from Echo devices or a Fire TV for only €4.99 per month.

Apple Music and Apple TV are updated on Windows: here’s what’s new

As Apple continues to evolve its service offerings—such as Apple Music Classical—hopefully it will also continue to refine its apps and develop solutions that support other content.

Last year, Microsoft announced that Apple Music and Apple TV apps would arrive in the Microsoft Store in 2023 for installation on Windows devices. These apps would replace the now almost obsolete iTunes and would offer a better Apple Music and Apple TV+ experience compared to web access.

Preliminary versions of Apple Music, Apple TV and Apple Devices appeared in the Microsoft Store in January, allowing management of devices such as the iPhone, iPad and also iPod from computers running the Windows operating system. However, Apple noted that since these applications were preview versions, they could have bugs in some features.

Improvements for access to Apple services

Now this update arrives to fix several bugs and bring improvements. Although the Cupertino company has not yet provided details about the updates in its release notes, new features are already beginning to be discovered. From Reddit, as reported by MacRumors, they discovered that the new Apple Music Preview now includes support for Windows 11 media controls and keyboard shortcuts, support for lyrics and smoother continuous playback between multiple consecutive tracks that we are playing in lossless quality.

Meanwhile, the biggest news in the Apple Devices Preview app is that Apple has removed mentions of the augmented reality helmet that we expect to be presented during the next Worldwide Developers Conference, WWDC 23. In the past, it has been precisely this app that has given us hints of “xrOS” and “realityOS”, names that are now clear candidates to appear officially in a week, but that, in the meantime, disappear from this app.

Finally, we still do not know what’s new in the Apple TV Preview app, but sooner rather than later we will know what changes this version will bring.

Let’s keep in mind in any case that these applications replace iTunes for Windows. Thus, if we install them, iTunes will stop working, which could prevent access to other content, such as audiobooks and podcasts. Something that, on the other hand, we can solve by uninstalling the preliminary applications.

In any case, these updates to the Apple Music, Apple TV and Apple Devices apps on Windows 11 demonstrate the company’s commitment to providing an improved and more integrated experience for PC users. As Apple continues to evolve its service offerings – such as Apple Music Classical – it is to be expected that it will also continue to refine its apps and develop solutions that support other content. A way to access what Apple has to offer beyond the expected iPhone 15 or any other Apple device.
