Top 10 times the MCU improved the comics

Despite the creative cleverness and fresh ingenuity of Marvel figureheads and directors like Kevin Feige, Jon Favreau, James Gunn, and the Russo Brothers, the widespread success and growth of the Marvel Cinematic Universe still began with the kernel of the comics. While the MCU has stayed relatively true to its source material, they’ve also taken their fair share of liberties.

While more hardcore Marvel fans might still be salty about Sony’s recent acquisition of Spider-Man, the glaring lack of mutants in the films, or how the Mandarin was cheekily sidestepped in “Iron Man 3,” there’s a lot of decisions the team has made that vastly improved the comic origins. Here’s our top 10:

10. Thor isn’t Donald Blake

If your first foray into Asgard was through the MCU then you probably don’t even know the name “Donald Blake.” While Thor was still born and raised an Asgardian in both, his powers and relation with the mystical Mjolnir was very different. In the MCU Thor is sent to Midgard (Earth) to learn humility and respect in the original “Thor.” He knows what he has lost and it’s only when he starts acting like a true hero that he re-earns his powers.

Thor Mjolnir Donald Blake comics Marvel
“soft-spoken and lame” is right

In the comics Odin sends Thor to Earth for much the same reason. The difference? In the comics Thor is further punished by being sent to Earth in the mortal guise of a crippled young medical student named Donald Blake, forced to hobble around on an injured leg. Furthermore he’s completely stripped of his memories, leading to a long stint as a (surprisingly successful) physician and surgeon, similar to Doctor Strange. It’s honestly pretty weird – “Donald Blake” even opened up a private practice in New York. We think it’s definitely for the best that the MCU decided to forego this unnecessary complication to the plot, and instead that Thor learned to be a hero the real way. No mind-wiping necessary.

9. Scott Lang, not Hank Pym

Hank Pym is one of the most important members of the Avengers in the comics: He’s a founding member, the creator of Pym Particles, and even the mind behind the creation of Ultron. Many fans of the comics were upset by his exclusion in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” when in the comics his character played such a pivotal role. Even when Ant-Man finally got a solo movie it wasn’t Hank Pym in the starring role, but rather Scott Lang. Hank Pym’s role is minimal, and he certainly had nothing to do with Ultron. Here’s why:

Hank Pym slap Janet comics
You can’t come back from some things

In the comics Scott Lang does become Ant-Man, and he’s the second guy to take on the mantle, just like it was shown in “Ant-Man.” Why put Hank Pym on the sidelines?

Well, to put it bluntly, it’s because in the comics Hank Pym beat his wife. Not something you’d likely see in a 2019 movie where you’re supposed to like the protagonist. Plus, the MCU already had one genius with a cool suit, they didn’t really need two. It was a lot more fun to see Scott Lang as the guy in the suit while Hank Pym exasperatedly tries to coach him.

8. Everything about Black Panther

Black Panther in the comics was a cool dude. He was the king of a hidden nation, a noble warrior, a humble leader in tune with his ancestry, and a frighteningly capable warrior. So how did the MCU take that character and improve him? By keeping everything we mentioned canon and focusing on improving everything and everyone around him. We could talk about the cool costumes and sleek technology of Wakanda all day, so to keep this short we’ll focus on a few key supporting characters from “Black Panther.”

Marvel Black Panther Lupita Nyong'o Nakia Shuri
Making Lupita Nyong’o a one-shot villain would be an egregious waste of her talents

Let’s start with Nakia. In the movies she plays T’Challa’s ex-girlfriend and a spy for the throne of Wakanda. Strong, compassionate, pragmatic, and forward-thinking she’s largely the reason T’Challa’s family survived Killmonger’s coup.

In the comics, Nakia is strong, too; in fact she’s one of the Dora Milaje. She was also a wife-in-training openly obsessed with marrying T’Challa (she even threw herself 50 feet into a shallow pool just so T’Challa would perform mouth-to-mouth on her). Ew. Definitely not something that would cast her in a good light in the movies. M’Baku was also radically overhauled in the movies, for which we are eternally grateful. Why? Dude was called “Man-Ape” in the comics.

Let’s just leave it at that.

7. Peter Parker is Iron Man’s protegee

Iron Man is a brilliant engineer and inventor. Spider-Man is a smart kid. On top of that, both are costumed superheroes trying to leave a positive mark on the world. It makes perfect sense that Peter would idolize Tony Stark, and that Tony would welcome his talents during a heated disagreement with his former friend, Steve Rogers.

Spider-Man Homecoming AI
We love the Tony-Peter relationship

What makes this improvement such a stroke of genius is that it also means MCU Spider-Man gets to play with all Iron Man’s gadgets and toys. As we saw in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” it’s a clever way for Stark to pass on the torch and keep his character’s influence present in the MCU even after the character has sadly departed.

6. Bucky is awesome

Before Steve Rogers became a super soldier in “Captain America: First Avenger” it was Bucky Barnes who pulled him out of the fire again and again, “’till the end of the line.” Even after receiving the serum, Rogers still played the shy hero with a heart of gold, while Bucky was the more outgoing, confident, older brother figure. This dynamic was one of the key aspects that made “The Winter Soldier” such a compelling film, and gave such weight to Cap’s wanting to protect and redeem his best friend in “Civil War.”

Bucky comics Captain America
My eyes! They bleed!

It’s times like this that we implore you to remember that Bucky was Captain America’s teenage sidekick in the comics. Yeesh. Introduced during a time when Batman and Robin was all the hype, Bucky originally played the part of Steve Rogers’ eager, plucky sidekick and mascot. This version of Bucky also led a team of teenage soldiers called – wait for it – the Kid Commandos. We get the feeling that if this character had fallen off a train in the final act the audience would have burst into applause.

5. War stories

Some might say that the MCU really hit its stride with the release and unprecedented success of the first “Avengers” film. The aftermath of the Chitauri invasion set the stage beautifully for Phase 2, with the effects of the disaster playing an important role in the subsequent chapters. While this isn’t really a choice you can compare with the comics, it was a brilliant way to interweave several of the themes and threads from the comics into a more streamlined, logical order.

Spider-Man Homecoming Vulture
It’s so cool that Vulture’s wings are powered with Chitauri tech

Right off the bat, we see this come into play with “Iron Man 3.” In the comics, Tony Stark had a serious drinking problem (which they addressed with moderate success in “Iron Man 2“) that was a huge hurdle for the character to overcome. This was repainted as severe panic attacks and an obsessive need to protect the planet as a result of realizing how under-prepared they were for what the universe had in store. Speaking of neat segues, this leads right into our next point:

4. I am Iron Man

Aside from making the smart choice to headline the MCU with a character that at the time was lesser-known (which meant a smaller chance to screw up the series!), placing Iron Man at the center was smart for another reason: His personal journey aligns perfectly with the course laid out by Marvel’s first 3 phases. Aside from Robert Downey Jr.’s performance elevating the character to a whole new level of awesome, it’s his relation with the other characters in the MCU that made such an important figure on a more macro level.

Age of Ultron Captain America Tony Stark nightmare hallucination
Tony Stark was never the same after New York

We already talked about how “Avengers” put Tony Stark on a course that plagued him with anxiety. While he recovered on a personal level at the end of “Iron Man 3,” he still carried this with him in all the later movies. He sees a vision of death and destruction in “Age of Ultron” that inspires him to build a shield around the planet. Thus Ultron was born.

He wants to prevent global disasters and champion a more legal, institutionalized grip on superheroes. Thus the Sokovia Accords were introduced and the Civil War ignited.

He carries the weight of Marvel’s first three phases on his shoulders and brings that weight into every story in which he plays a part, adding his signature gravitas and credibility to situations well into “Avengers: Endgame.” We love you 3000, RDJ!

3. Everything about the Guardians of the Galaxy

If you knew who the Guardians of the Galaxy were before 2014 you are a cut from a very different cloth than most. Seriously, even the most hardcore Marvel fans probably didn’t know these oddball characters terribly well, and certainly never thought they’d see the day when they hit the big screen. James Gunn changed all of that with the huge breakout success of the first “Guardians of the Galaxy.”

Virtually everything about this corner of the Marvel universe needed a serious overhaul and paint job, and this movie managed to do that with flying colors, injecting its trademark humor, heart, multi-faceted characters, and zany, larger-than-life situations.

Guardians of the Galaxy hallway
The Guardians of the Galaxy magically evolved into one of our favorite teams in Marvel

While Rocket and Groot didn’t change overly much from the comics’ formula, the oblivious and hilarious Drax was a delight to watch, and Star-Lord became the anchor the audience could attach to in an unfamiliar world. Playing rock hits from the ’60s and deeply affected by his mother’s passing, we could immediately sympathize and enjoy the new character. Gamora was perhaps the most important of all, with her ties to Thanos and the Infinity War, but we’ll get into that later.

2. To court Death

Humans “are unruly and therefore cannot be ruled,” The Other said to Thanos in the post-credits scene of Avengers. “To challenge them is to court…Death.” This line probably didn’t mean much to fans unfamiliar with the Infinity Gauntlet storyline, but to those who were, it carried on a whole new context.

In the comics, Thanos was obsessed with Mistress Death, one of the Cosmic Entities of the Marvel Universe. The MCU could have gone a very different direction with his character if they’d stayed true to the comics:

Infinity Gauntlet Thanos
Come on, dude, you’re embarrassing yourself.

Thanos in “Infinity War” was portrayed as a dogmatic futurist set out to carve a universe with plentiful resources, a universe that would know neither famine nor overpopulation. This wasn’t the case at all in the comics; everything he did in the Infinity Gauntlet story arc was for the affections of Mistress Death, a love that was never requited. We’re glad the MCU didn’t go this route in the movies; we’re not sure we could have taken him half as seriously.

1. Everything connects

Our favorite thing about the Marvel Cinematic universe is how everything is seamlessly intertwined. Plot threads often return or are revealed to have had a much deeper impact than we previously thought, and it’s one of the coolest parts of setting up a multi-movie franchise. In that way, it’s actually quite similar to the comics!

Of course, there are a lot of differences in the things the studio chose to connect, like turning the Eye of Agamotto into the Time Stone, having Captain Marvel’s plane inspire Nick Fury into launching the “Avenger Initiative,” or making Red Skull the protector of the Soul Stone.

Avengers: Endgame Hulk Ancient One
Did anyone really expect Hulk to run into the Ancient One?

While the comics had their own connections written throughout the series, drawing different connections between different points made these tie-ins special and exciting even to people who thought they knew Marvel comics inside and out.

DCEU movies ranked from worst to best

There are good DCEU movies? You’ll have to read to find out!

Superman

While Marvel kept making hit after hit with its cinematic universe, DC just never seemed to get it right. While some of the films have small, cult followings, most people agree that pretty much every film in the DC Extended Universe is hot garbage.

From bad casting, to bad writing, to REALLY bad special effects, there is a lot of muck to sift through. However, the DCEU does have a shining light amongst all of the trash. What is that shining light you may ask? You’ll just have to read to find out.

DCEU movies ranked from worst to best

7. Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad
#NotMyJoker

This movie is about as far from “squad goals” as you can get.

“Suicide Squad” was a movie that was ruined by its production team. Basically, the MCU was making tons of money with movies that were universally loved. The DCEU was turning into a laughing stock after “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” deflated any interest fans had in the series.

In an attempt to regain the support of fans, the DCEU filmmakers decided that the smartest thing to do was to make “Suicide Squad” more like an MCU movie. Halfway through the making of “Suicide Squad,” Warner Bros. spent millions of dollars to make the movie more “lighthearted.”

What was the result? One of the worst superhero movies ever created.

The movie made next to no sense. It’s about Amanda Waller (played by Viola Davis) wanting to create a league of meta-humans that would be able to take down a Superman-level threat. The problem is that her plan is stupid!

First off, trying to make a team of heroes out of a bunch of villains is a horrible idea. Aside from Enchantress, none of the members of the Suicide Squad really seem that threatening. The rest of the members just feel like a typical Tuesday for Batman.

Also, adding Harley Quinn to the squad (who has nothing to bring to the table) just means that you will have Joker on your tail. Speaking of the Joker…

This was the worst on-screen Joker we have ever seen. When we first saw him with his tats and grills, we knew something was wrong. Think about it: can you picture the Joker, the most clinically insane individual on the planet, sit perfectly still for multiple tattoos? The answer is “absolutely not.”

From the awful story, to the poorly executed characters, to the sub-par action, “Suicide Squad” failed to be DC’s saving grace and instead became their ultimate nightmare.

6. “Justice League”

Steppenwolf
Who even remembers this guy’s name?

Let’s go back to 2012 when “The Avengers” was coming to theaters. At the time, it was one of the most highly anticipated movies in history. For the most part, it lived up to the hype. However, when looking back on the MCU as a whole, it was a bit middle-of-the-road. Despite all of that, the movie still made a boatload of money and was the MCU’s highest-grossing film at the time.

When “Justice League” came to theaters, it had one of the worst box offices in the entire DCEU. This was absolute proof that the hype was dead. Fans have been begging for a Justice League movie for years. Even though we finally got one, fans knew that these filmmakers were going to screw it up. As much as the fans didn’t care, the filmmakers clearly cared even less.

The movie was awful. It had an incredibly forgettable villain, a forgettable story, and beloved characters played by forgettable actors. Heck, when crafting this list, we actually forgot this movie was even made!

The movie just seemed incredibly poorly timed. Only half of the members of the Justice League had prior movies establishing their characters. Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman had none of that. Instead, the filmmakers had to hope that the people that actually came to see this trash were all fans of the comics and had done their research. Unfortunately, even if you read the comics, you were going to still be confused throughout the movie.

It’s not as unwatchable as “Suicide Squad,” but it’s two hours of your life that you’ll never get back.

5. “Aquaman”

Ocean Master
I didn’t know Shredder from Ninja Turtles was in this movie!

“Aquaman” felt like it was made by a bunch of frat boys one step away from flunking out of school. The movie is basically just one-liners and Jason Momoa smoldering for the camera. Just watch this:

The acting is absolutely atrocious. If “Game of Thrones” taught us anything about Jason Momoa, it’s that he is at his best when he isn’t talking. Every line out of the lord of the bro-cean’s mouth is ridiculously cheesy.

The movie actually did exceptionally well at the box office. Thanks to foreign ticket sales, the movie made more than $1 billion.

That’s not to say that the movie isn’t garbage. It’s painfully hard to get through. Do yourself a favor let this flick sink to the bottom of the ocean.

4. “Man of Steel”

Superman
The S stands for “Sucks,” because this movie really really sucks.

Superman is a hard character to get right.

He’s a god living among men and he’s trying to find out how to fit in the world. To be fair, that’s what “Man of Steel” explores. The only problem is that it gets everything wrong in the process.

While Superman struggles to find his purpose in “Man of Steel,” we as the audience struggle to get through the movie. “Man of Steel” was the first movie in the DCEU, and boy-oh-boy did it give it a rocky start. Need an example? Watch the most pointless death in any superhero movie:

The movie is infamous for being overly dark, joyless, and even colorless.

The main problem with the movie is that they hired the brainless robot Henry Cavill to play Superman. He’s definitely no Christopher Reeve, but he’s also just not a very good actor. Granted, the writers don’t give him much to work with:

If you think Cavill’s acting as Superman is hokey, just take a look at Michael Shannon as General Zod:

Director Zac Snyder watched that line delivery and said, “Yeah, that was good. Let’s go with that take.”

“Man of Steel” could have been the start of DC’s golden age of comic book movies. Instead, it was the start of a long series of disappointments.

3. “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice”

Lex Luthor
Could you imagine what would’ve happened if HIS mother’s name was Martha?!?!

It’s really easy to hate this movie.

From start to finish, “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” is poor decision after poor decision. From casting Jesse Eisenberg to play Lex Luthor, to the world’s greatest detective falling for a middle school level scheme, to… “Martha,” the movie is awful.

You’re probably asking yourself, “If this movie is so bad, then why is it so close to the top?” Well, a lot of it has to do with the fact that it doesn’t have much in terms of competition. Secondly, the movie does have a few redeemable qualities. First off, Ben Affleck does a phenomenal job as Batman. The character’s worst qualities clearly aren’t Affleck’s fault, but the fault of the writers.

Secondly, although a lot of the action is pretty lame, this scene is awesome:

This one scene of Batman kicking butt is the best action scene in the entire DCEU.

What made this movie rub so many people the wrong way is because this could have been the greatest superhero movie ever created. Buried beneath all of the bad CGI and awful writing there is a good movie somewhere in here.  Those who watch DC’s animated movies will tell you just how good “The Dark Knight Returns” is. The two movies contain what most agree is the best on-screen confrontation between the Son of Krypton and Bat of Gotham.

Dawn of Justice couldn’t even channel a fraction of that film’s energy, and instead became the living meme we all know today.

The film’s biggest issue lies in how much it tries to cram in. It has to establish Batman, establish Lex Luthor, create the Batman versus Superman story, set up the Justice League, introduce Wonder Woman, introduce and execute Doomsday, and then play out the Death of Superman storyline. It fails on all accounts and just comes off as a bloated mess.

2. “Wonder Woman”

Ares
Eat some chocolate, Professor Lupin. You’re not you when you’re hungry.

“Wonder Woman” is far from a perfect film. However, it does deserve most of the praise it gets.

The story and characters were the best the DCEU had given us by far up until this point. Wonder Woman was likable, and she was thrown into a story that made perfect sense for her character.

The movie plays a lot like “Captain America: The First Avenger,” as it takes place during a World War with the main character out to defeat the overwhelming German forces. However, it is also a fish-out-of-water story as Wonder Woman struggles to learn how to live in our world after being raised with the Amazons. In this sense, it’s a lot like “Thor.”

The movie does have two pretty big issues. The first is the special effects. A lot of the action scenes look pretty bad.

Gal Gadot’s fight choreography is fine, but when she jumps around fighting people, the special effects look about as convincing as middle school theater.

The second worst part is the villain. Wonder Woman believes that the God of War Ares (sorry, Kratos) is the cause of all the suffering going on in the world. At first, it looks like Ares isn’t real. At this point, you think the movie is going to actually be pretty smart by showing that humans are flawed and that there aren’t always supernatural causes for our misdoings. However, Ares then reveals himself resulting in quite possibly the worst villain casting of all time.

Who was chosen to play the God of War? Why, Professor Lupin from Harry Potter, of course!

He isn’t the least bit threatening. He looks like a complete dork throwing a hissy-fit. Rather than feeling scared, you just laugh at the screen as the poindexter tries to act all-powerful.

All in all, “Wonder Woman” is a decent flick by DCEU standards, but it is far from a great superhero movie.

1. “Shazam!”

Shazam
My face when I made a better movie than Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Joker, and Aquaman.

If you were to have gone back in time to when we were in elementary school and would’ve told us, “In the future, there is going to be an Aquaman movie, a Batman vs. Superman movie, and a Justice League movie, but they’re all going to suck. However, there is going to be an awesome Shazam movie,” we would’ve called you insane.

However, that was exactly the case. “Shazam!” is a blast from start to finish. The DCEU filmmakers decided that rather than trying to make a cinematic universe, a dark film, or a something monumental, they would just make something fun. “Fun” is the best way to describe this flick.

If we had to nitpick at one part of the movie, it would be the special effects. Sometimes the movie looks like a PlayStation 2 game.

The dogs in “Ghostbusters” look more convincing.

However, it doesn’t take away from the rest of the film.

Zachary Levi does a great job of playing a child in a superhero’s body. He’s believably cocky and arrogant while also being hilariously awkward when trying to interact with people.

The main character Billy Batson is a likable kid with a rough past. It’s very easy to get invested in him and to root for him to succeed. When he gets his powers, he does what any other kid with superpowers could do; he tests them and makes YouTube videos. This results in quite possibly the best scene in the entire DCEU:

If “Shazam!” were an MCU film, we would probably put it between “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2” and “Spider-Man: Far From Home” on our list. The fact that we think this movie is better than almost half of the movies in the MCU is crazy given the fact that pretty much everything else on here would plummet to the bottom of the list.

“Shazam!” is far from a perfect movie, and it is nowhere near the level of movies like “Avengers: Endgame.” However, it is easily the best movie the DCEU has to offer.

Wrapping up

If you happened to like one of the movies we ripped apart, more power to you. We’ll just agree to disagree. There are a ton of Marvel movies with issues, but the DCEU just seems to get it wrong over and over again. With that being said, we would like nothing more than to see great movies involving these characters.

The main thing DC needs now is time. The movie industry is so saturated with superhero flicks that DC needs to wait for things to die down before throwing their hat back into the ring. Once some time has passed, they should be able to get some fresh ideas on what to do with these beloved characters.

Every MCU movie ranked from worst to best

From Iron Man to Endgame, what are the best films the MCU has to offer?

SPOILERS BELOW!

Surpassing even the Star Wars franchise, the MCU is the most profitable film franchise of all time.

Averaging about $1 billion per film, the MCU has created heroic characters and tyrannical villains mixed with some of the best action and comedy of our time.

However, not every film was a winner. Movies like the first Thor film pale in comparison to later entries like “Captain America: Civil War” where we got to see more action and a larger assortment of characters.

Every MCU movie ranked from worst to best

23. “Iron Man 3”

Iron Man 3

A common theme you will see with this list is that as Captain America got better and better, Iron Man got worse and worse. Robert Downey Jr. is the film’s only saving grace, bringing the same charm and wit to Tony Stark‘s character.

Where the film falls flat is in every other aspect. The action is bland. The story is dumb. The villain is absolutely atrocious:

In the comics, the Mandarin is an all-powerful scientist who uses alien technology to become a supreme overlord. He is the true arch-nemesis of Iron Man. In the movie, he is an actor who fakes being head of a terrorist organization.

Where the film goes from bad to insulting is in its treatment of Ben Kingsley. Kingsley has wanted to play a comic book villain for years. He nearly played Vulture in “Spider-Man 3,” but the director had other plans. The Mandarin seemed like a dream role for the actor, but what resulted was the film of our nightmares.

Hopefully, we will see the Mandarin done right in “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.”

22. “The Incredible Hulk”

Incredible Hulk

This one was so bad that even Marvel wants you to forget about it.

Hulk is an unstoppable force of destruction who annihilates everything in sight with his bare fists. Somehow, the filmmakers found a way to make that boring. We don’t get to see a lot of Hulk action, and when we do it’s a CG mishmash that looks worse than some video games.

Looking back on the film, Edward Norton didn’t do a terrible job, but his portrayal would not have fit as well in the Avengers like Mark Ruffalo’s.

21. “Thor: The Dark World”

Thor 2

In the Avengers films, Thor is one of the most entertaining characters to see on the screen. Unfortunately, it took him a few movies before the God of Thunder himself captured the same energy.

In his second feature-length film, Thor finds himself up against the dark elf Malekith. Malekith is played by the Ninth Doctor himself, Christopher Eccleston. Eccleston is a good actor, but Malekith is not an interesting villain. He wants to use the Reality Stone to take over the universe. That sounds interesting, but it just comes off as bland.

Yeesh, talking about the Infinity Stones gets super confusing. Luckily, we have a guide to help you learn more about them:

What truly hurts this film is the humor. The MCU is a bit controversial for how much humor there is, but good lord, is there too much in this movie, and Kat Dennings‘s character is at the forefront.

The film has “The Dark World,” in its title, and yet with the sheer amount of humor, you’d think its the most lighthearted film in the series. The jokes do not land. By the end, you’ll want Thor to bash your head in with Mjolnir.

20. “Captain Marvel”

Captain Marvel

The MCU has immortalized several actors and actresses as their characters. Robert Downey Jr. IS Iron Man. Chris Evans IS Captain America. Scarlett Johannsen IS Black Widow. Brie Larson, on the other hand, isn’t exactly a memorable Captain Marvel.

She is by no means bad, and the issues with her character are just as much the fault of the writing and directing. She’s just boring. The story’s focus is on her trying to figure out her past. The problem is that the movie is a prequel, so we already have a lot of her backstory figured out. The things that surprise her and other characters have no effect on audience members who have seen the rest of the MCU.

When the film is at its best, it still doesn’t come close to other films on this list. The movie builds her up to be this trump card against Thanos, but all it does is make her feel like a plot device rather than a person. When she does unlock her powers and go full badass, the film becomes what it should have been the entire time.

The film also tries to capture some nostalgia, but completely falls flat. Taking place in the ’90s as a prequel to the rest of the MCU, the advertising looked like this was going to take us down memory lane. Instead, we got to see a shot of a Blockbuster video and a nostalgic Stan Lee cameo. Other than that, the nostalgia trip fell short just like the rest of the film.

19. “Thor”

Thor

Coming off two Iron Man films and one Hulk film, we were looking forward to a breath of fresh air as far as scenery goes. Cities are cool and all, but when we heard a Thor movie was coming, we were looking forward to seeing a movie take place in Asgard. To the film’s credit, Asgard looks cool and all, but we just don’t get to see a lot of it as the film mainly takes place in New Mexico.

New Mexico is fine and dandy for “Breaking Bad,” but for a superhero movie about the mythical God of Thunder, it leaves a lot to be desired. Where the film shines is with its star, Chris Hemsworth. Hemsworth brings life to Thor and absolutely commands the screen. He is funny, charismatic, and badass throughout the film. Also, watching him learn Earth customs is one of the best parts of the movie.

The fish out of water story works in this film, but the story about the God of Thunder learning to become the king of Asgard falls to the wayside. The movie isn’t bad, it just isn’t what we wanted to see.

18. “Ant-Man and the Wasp”

Ant-Man 2

After “Avengers: Infinity War,” audiences were left depressed. “Ant-Man and the Wasp” appears to have been Marvel’s attempt to lighten the mood. In a lot of ways, it does. In other ways, it completely disrupts the pacing.

Like its predecessor, the film is still a lot of fun. Paul Rudd is hilarious as Scott Lang. Some of his scenes in this movie are some of the funniest in the entire MCU:

Where the film falls short is the story. Ant-Man and Wasp are in a race against time against a new villain, Ghost, to rescue Wasp’s mother, Janet Van-Dyne. Ant-Man and the Wasp simply want to rescue her while Ghost wants to use her to cure her disease, which may, in return, kill Janet.

Although it is a breath of fresh air to have a movie without a basic villain who wants to take over the world, Ghost is no Thanos.

17. “Iron Man 2”

Iron Man 2

For a lot of people, “Iron Man 2” might fall lower on the list. To be fair, they’re not wrong.

Tony Stark’s charisma and sarcasm are replaced with him being obnoxious and standoffish:

Where the movie bounces back is with literally every other aspect. The action is a lot of fun. The supporting characters are a lot of fun, and even the villains are fun. Sure, Mickey Rourke’s Whiplash is a far cry from Loki or Thanos. However, Whiplash AND Sam Rockwell’s Justin Hammer make it fun. I mean come on, the scene at the congressional hearing where Tony rips apart Hammer is incredible:

Although the action can be lacking, when it is good, it’s a lot of fun. Watching Iron Man and War Machine mow down drones is an example of when a CG battle can actually look cool. “The Incredible Hulk” should have taken notes.

16. “Avengers: Age of Ultron”

Avengers 2

This movie has a lot of things going for it. The action is incredible. The new characters are a lot of fun to watch. Also, the events it sets in motion define the rest of the MCU up until the end of Phase 3.

Where the film falls apart is in its villain and main story. Ultron certainly looks intimidating, but he’s just annoying. Every line out of his mouth sounds like a fortune cookie or a cringe-worthy Tumblr post:

Loki from the previous Avengers movie was built up in “Thor.” Thanos was built up since the end of Phase One and in various small appearances until “Avengers: Infinity War.” Ultron is born, lives, and dies all in this film. In a series that prides itself on creating characters over multiple films, Ultron’s short life just pales in comparison.

In the “Age of Ultron” comics, Ultron is an unstoppable force that the Avengers are simply unable to defeat on the battlefield. The only way they are able to beat him is by going back in time and stopping his creator, Hank Pym, from making him in the first place. In the film, Ultron ultimately loses to the superpower of teamwork. Yawn.

Fast-forward to the cooler scenes in the movie like Iron Man fighting Hulk or when they all try lifting Mjolnir. Other than that, there’s no need to bother. However, it might be worth looking into whether or not you can lift Thor’s hammer. You know, in case Frost Giants ever invade the Earth.

15. “Doctor Strange”

Doctor Strange

Visually, this movie is on par with movies like “Inception.” The story is cool, and the action is insane:

The story’s weakness is its main character. Benedict Cumberbatch is a great actor and Scott Derrickson is a good director. However, they both just couldn’t quite make a likable protagonist.

Doctor Strange is a jerk throughout the movie. Although he falls on the side of good at the end of the film, he’s selfish and cocky for the first 80%. Characters like Spider-Man and Ant-Man make mistakes in their films, but their motivations are always pure. Strange acts like a god among ants, so it’s hard to relate to him or even root for him sometimes.

However, at the end of the day, this film still looks absolutely spectacular. For goodness sake, just watch this part:

That was bananas.

Scenes like that make this movie still fun to watch on subsequent viewings. Just be prepared to do a lot of eye-rolling whenever Strange opens his mouth.

14.  “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2”

Guardians of the Galaxy 2

The first Guardians of the Galaxy film is pretty much loved universally. While its sequel is decent, “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2” just doesn’t capture the same lightning in a bottle as the original.

The original cast is back aside from Groot being several feet shorter. This time, the Guardians are out to stop Star-Lord’s estranged father Ego from destroying the galaxy.

The characters are still a lot of fun, and the story is decent. It just simply doesn’t have near the same level of action or humor that we wanted. Although, this scene is still awesome:

The strongest part of the movie is Yondu and his journey to redemption. The movie goes into much more detail about his father-son relationship with Star-Lord, and the reasoning behind his actions.

Is he cool? Hell yeah, he’s cool.

If you’re looking for more of the same Guardians action you loved in the original, this one won’t disappoint you.

13. “Spider-Man: Far From Home”

Spider-Man: Far From Home“Spider-Man: Far From Home” has a lot of great scenes, but they don’t quite equate to a phenomenal final product.

In the final film in Phase 3, we see a world trying to rebuild itself after the events of “Avengers: Endgame.” People who were killed when Thanos snapped his fingers (they call it “the blip” in the movie) are now trying to find a way to fit back into society. Also, the world looks for the answer for who will become the next Iron Man after Tony Stark’s tragic death.

Peter Parker feels a huge weight on his shoulders as he feels the burden to take over where Stark left off has fallen on him. However, he isn’t done being a kid. He wants to hang out with his friends, go on a vacation, and tell his crush how he feels. When Mysterio (played by Jake Gyllenhaal) enters the fray and appears to be the next great superhero, Spidey sees a way out for him!

With two great end credits scenes, awesome action scenes, great comedy, and a few cool twists, “Spider-Man: Far From Home” has no shortage of great scenes. However, the movie doesn’t exactly do a good job of capping off Phase 3. Although it’s nice to have some lighthearted fun after having our hearts ripped out in Endgame, we would’ve preferred something that gave us a better idea of what to expect in Phase 4.

12. “Ant-Man”

Ant-Man

At the end of “Age of Ultron,” the MCU formula was getting tired. Every movie was feeling like more of the same, and the franchise was in desperate need of a breath of fresh air.

Never would we have guessed that the change we were looking for was in “Ant-Man.”

In many ways, “Ant-Man” is a lot like most other superhero movies. There is an origin story followed by training to become a hero, and it all culminates into an epic final battle. Where the movie differs is in its execution. The action is unlike anything else in the MCU thus far:

Ant-Man fights unlike anyone else in that he uses the environment to his advantage. Him switching between normal-size and ant-size mid-fight is awesome and adds a whole new dimension to the action.

“Ant-Man” also might be the funniest movie in the entire MCU, and we don’t say that lightly. We could listen to Luis tell a story all day:

11. “Captain America: The First Avenger”

Captain America

First, let’s do introductions:

Now that that’s out of the way, this movie is an absolute jam. It is physically impossible to watch this movie without a smile crossing your face.

This is the movie that cemented Chris Evans in the role of Captain America. He finds a way to capture all of Cap’s motivations while still making him an interesting complex character. He goes from inspiring to heroic to tragic, all in the same film.

The movie also does a great job of capturing America in the 1940s. From the scenery to the wardrobes, to even how people act, it feels like virtual time travel.

The only part of the movie that needs a little work is the action. We don’t get a lot of shield throwing/bashing action. However, what we do get is phenomenal. Basically, we could do this all day.

10. “Iron Man”

Iron Man

The movie that started it all.

“Iron Man” doesn’t have the same luster it had when it was first released, but it is still a great film to watch today:

In this film, Robert Downey Jr. becomes Iron Man the same way Heath Ledger became Joker and Christopher Reeve became Superman. His charm, charisma, and wit perfectly reflect the Tony Stark we know from the comics.

From start to finish, both Downey Jr. and Iron Man rocket across the screen, giving us a non-stop ride with great action and comedy. The only hiccup in the film is the main villain, Obadiah Stane, the Iron Monger. Stane is played by the incredible Jeff Bridges, but his character does not fit in the story as well as he could. Let’s just say, The Dude does not abide with him.

Iron Man was the role Downey Jr. was born to play. He’s been Sherlock Holmes, Charlie Chaplin, and a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude. However, as he says, he is Iron Man.

9. “Spider-Man: Homecoming”

Spider-Man Homecoming

We’ve seen Peter Parker’s origin twice before on the big screen.

We don’t need to see him get bit by a spider again. We don’t need to see him fumble with learning his powers. Also, we don’t need to see Uncle Ben die again.

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” isn’t the origin story we have seen over and over again, and instead replaces it with a coming-of-age tale. Also, he can do a flip!

Spidey is played by Tom Holland, and for the first time on the big screen, he finally looks like a high school kid. It’s definitely a breath of fresh air to see an adolescent play Parker, and not a guy clearly in his late 20s, early 30s.

Along with a great performance from Michael Keaton as Vulture, we get a great movie with phenomenal action. The two play off each other very well as Holland grows more and more into a superhero.

Hopefully, Jake Gyllenhaal will give us just as good a performance in “Spider-Man: Far From Home:”

While also being a great action star, Holland gets lots of sympathy from the audience. At the end of the day, he’s still a kid who is in over his head. When he struggles, you root for him. When he triumphs, you cheer for him.

The story all culminates in a twist-ending that shakes audience members to their core. If you haven’t seen it yet, swing on in for a thrilling experience.

8. “The Avengers”

The Avengers

When “The Avengers” first hit theaters, audience members were calling it the greatest superhero movie ever made.

Let’s dial it back a notch.

“The Avengers” is a phenomenal film on epic proportions, but it is far from perfect. The movie is basically one-liners and action scenes from start to finish.

Although the formula has since been duplicated to mixed results, this was the first time we saw a group of superheroes across multiple films come together.

Although we got better Avengers adventures later on, this is still a noteworthy movie that still holds up.

7. “Thor: Ragnarok”

Thor 3

The first Thor movie didn’t have enough Asgardian lore to keep our interests and the second missed the mark with almost every joke.

“Thor: Ragnarok,” on the other, hand nailed both those areas on the head, with incredible lore and a mythical story to keep our interests.

The film even played classic Led Zeppelin songs over some of the actions scenes to further add to the awesomeness.

Thor goes through character development in this movie different from the previous films. In this movie, Thor fails and has to seek redemption. He has to surpass overwhelming odds that don’t always require swinging a hammer super hard.

Even better, Kat Dennings is nowhere to be found. Instead, we get one of the greatest comedic duos in comic book history:

6. “Guardians of the Galaxy”

Guardians of the Galaxy

“What a bunch of a-holes.”

The Guardians of the Galaxy comics are some of the lesser-known ones from Marvel. Prior to the movies, you’d seldom see a Groot or Starlord cosplay at a convention. However, after the movies, they are now some of the most recognizable characters in the entire Marvel Universe.

What makes the movies so great is the team chemistry. Star-Lord, Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Gamora, and Drax all have their own distinct personalities that play off each other so well.

The action is fun, and the jokes are funny, but it’s how the characters interact with this creative environment that makes the film so great.

We can watch Groot mess around while Rocket yells at him, or Drax struggle with cultural norms all day. This ragtag gang never gets old.

5. “Black Panther”

Black Panther

Wakanda forever!

Securing a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards, “Black Panther” deserved all the praise it got.

What makes this film so incredible is Michael B. Jordan’s character Erik Killmonger. Killmonger has this tragic backstory that feeds into his overwhelming hatred for both his cousin T’Challa and Wakanda.

The true star of the movie is Wakanda itself. Wakanda is absolutely stunning. Seeing the African culture mixed into the set design and costume design is truly breathtaking. There isn’t another movie that looks like this, let alone another MCU movie.

Honestly, there’s so much cool stuff that went into making this movie that we made a list talking about it:

There’s a reason why this film won three Oscars.

4. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”

Captain America 2

When it comes to the MCU, aside from James Gunn, the director(s) that probably stand out are the Russo brothers.

The four MCU films directed by the Russo brothers are not only great, but they’re also the top four films on this list.

In the first Captain America movie, Cap was the star-spangled man with the plan who fought for all things America. In the two Cap films directed by the Russo brothers, we see Cap thinking for himself more, and questioning the government that made him. This results in intense and suspenseful action sequences:

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” was their first movie. The film feels more like a spy film than a superhero flick. Cap and Black Widow work to uncover the secrets of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s dark past while also on the run from Winter Soldier.

The movie’s main twist before the climax was obvious to fan’s of the comics, but played out well in the film nonetheless.

The action really takes off in the fight sequences between Cap and Winter Soldier:

James Young serves as the fight choreographer for the movie. After this picture, Marvel brought him back to work on the fight choreography in both Guardians of the Galaxy movies and every Avengers film thereafter.

If you are looking for an espionage flick with some of the best hand-to-iron-hand fight scenes, look no further.

3. “Captain America: Civil War”

Captain America 3

Where “Age of Ultron” fell flat, “Captain America: Civil War” felt more like the Avengers sequel we deserved.

The movie had a difficult task ahead of it. Not only did it have to adapt one of the most popular Marvel comic series, but it had to introduce two big superheroes: Spider-Man and Black Panther.

The movie does a great job of showing every character’s motivations as to whose side they take. It also doesn’t dwell on them. The movie also does a good job of changing a major issue from the comic series. It replaces the Superhuman Registration Act with the Sokovia Accords.

In the comics, the act requires all superhumans to register themselves and reveal their secret identity. Cap and a team of other superheroes disagree with the act and refuse to sign, just like in the movie. Here’s where the comics don’t really make sense: There aren’t a lot of superheroes with secret identities in the MCU.

The only person the act really affects is Spider-Man, and he willingly sides with Iron Man.

Spider-Man Civil War

With Peter Parker abiding by the act, there’s really no need to fight. Yet, the comic series paints Iron Man and his team as the bad guy.

In the movie, the Sokovia Accords require all superhumans to only engage a situation when approved by a United Nations committee. Iron Man carries a lot of guilt from “Age of Ultron,” so he leads the charge for the accords. Cap, on the other hand, questions them as he is still regaining his trust in the government after finding Hydra sleeper agents in S.H.I.E.L.D.

This all culminates into a battle with Cap’s side and Iron Man’s side at the airport. The fight scene speaks for itself:

At the end of the film, the Avengers are more divided than ever, thanks to Baron Zemo. Zemo is essentially what Lex Luthor should have been in “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.” Even though the heroes know he is manipulating them, they simply do not care; their urge to fight each other is now stronger than their will to forgive.

This is a near-perfect comic book movie, and yet it is only our number 3.

2. “Avengers: Endgame”

Avengers Endgame

This movie missed the top spot by a hair.

“Avengers: Endgame” gave us satisfying conclusions to characters nearly a decade in the making. It wrapped up the Thanos saga with a ribbon, giving us a final battle scene we will be rewatching over and over again.

The only flaw in the film is in how little we can really rewatch the entire movie. The first time you see it, it’s incredible and you are glued to the screen from start to finish. On subsequent viewings, you really feel the three-hour runtime a lot more. Once it comes out on Blu-ray and streaming services, we expect that we’ll mainly just watch the last hour.

Throw one or two more action scenes throughout the film, and this takes the top spot, no questions asked. However, it’s still a tremendous film and a dramatic conclusion for some of our favorite characters.

1. “Avengers: Infinity War”

Avengers Infinity Wars

Few films leave audience members as somber as “Avengers: Infinity War” did. After your first viewing, you are left with a cold sweat and an overwhelming fear for our heroes takes over. However, in an almost masochistic fashion, we can watch this one over and over again.

The film is non-stop action and character development. We see characters meet each other for the first time in memorable scenes that eventually become intense battles.

The star of the film is Thanos. The Russo brothers took the Thanos from the comics and without a doubt made him 10 times better.

In the comics, Thanos is motivated by his love for Mistress Death, the literal interpretation of death in the Marvel universe. Thanos wants to wipe out half of all life in the universe with the Infinity Stones in order to court her.

Thanos snap

In the movie, Thanos wants to do the same thing, but because he thinks the universe will run out of resources at its current rate of expansion.

The film has some of the best action in all of the MCU. It has some of the best humor in all of the MCU. However, it has THE best story in the entire MCU.

Tell us what you think!

Do you agree with us? Take our quiz to tell us what you think is the best film in the MCU!

The films of the MCU will undoubtedly survive the test of time and will be shown for generations to come. It’s nice to know that as the years go by, we will always have the adventures of the Avengers to warm our spirits.

5 things we want to see in the Blade movie

We’re going to need buckets of blood and lot’s of swears in order to pull this off.

BladeIt came as quite a shock when Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and Mahershala Ali announced that there will be a Blade move in the MCU.

If you grew up in the late ’90s or early 2000s, you probably remember the three Wesley Snipe Blade movies. Although they have a bit of a fan base, most fans of the comics agree that the movies were cheesy and a bit campy.

A new movie means a fresh start for Blade. However, there are a few things that Marvel Studios needs to get right if the movie is going to attract new fans and old fans. As huge fans of both Blade and the MCU, we decided to take a look at the things we can reasonably hope for in a Blade movie that will make everyone happy.

5 things we want in the Blade movie

5. For it to be wayyyy less cheesy than the Wesley Snipes movies

Even though the Wesley Snipes movies were filled with gore and swears thanks to its R rating, it still was filled with cheesy dialogue like this:

VIDEO IS NSFW

Mahershala Ali is a two-time Oscar winner and an extremely respected actor. Bad one-liners will sound very unnatural coming out of his mouth. Since it’s the MCU, there will still be some humor here and there, but if he remains stern and serious for the majority of the film, we’re in for a treat!

4. For it to be just as dark and gritty as the comics

The Blade comics are pretty dark and hardcore. Blade’s mother was a prostitute who was killed and eaten by a vampire as she was giving birth to Blade.

Luckily, Blade’s mom’s hooker friends fended off the vampire before he could chow down on Blade.

Blade was raised at his mom’s old brothel where he grew his hatred for vampires. He also learned the how-tos of killing vampires. Before the age of 10, Blade was already preying on weaker vampires.

Since this is the MCU, we don’t expect to see a pregnant woman get eaten by a vampire who is considering eating the baby for dessert. However, Blade can’t just be given the standard tragic backstory. He needs to be born into blood to feed into his hatred for vampires.

3. A precursor to Marvel Zombies

MArvel Zombies

Although he eventually was infected, Blade was part of the zombie resistance in “Marvel Zombies.”

“Marvel Zombies” was one time where the Marvel comics dove into the realm of horror. In it, many of our favorite heroes have been zombified, and it’s up to a resistance of uninfected to save the world.

Since “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is supposed to be the MCU’s first horror movie, “Marvel Zombies” is a logical next step. If the MCU were to slap this at the end of “Blade,” this could be one of the best end credits scenes in all of the MCU.

2. Tie it into the MCU in a way that makes sense

Okay, so some pretty silly stuff happens in the MCU, but it all makes sense.

Sure, there’s a talking raccoon, a talking tree, wizards, magic hammers, and a whole bunch of other nonsense. However, there isn’t anything that doesn’t fit into the world the writers have created.

In the world of Blade, not only are vampires real but so is Dracula. That would mean throughout the entirety of the MCU, there were secretly vampires the entire time. With all of these huge criminal organizations like the Ten Rings and Hydra, we can’t help but think they would’ve stumbled upon the world’s vampire underbelly, and recruited some to defeat the Avengers. Basically, if the MCU just says “there were vampires the whole time,” it would be pretty silly.

We’re fine with introducing vampires, but the writers need to find a creative way to bring them in that not only makes sense but fits the series.

1. An R rating

This cannot be stressed enough: “Blade” needs to be rated R.

The amount of blood, gore, and swearing that will be necessary to make this movie demands an R rating. We have R ratings with the Deadpool movies, so why not Blade?

If he appears in tie-in movies with the rest of the MCU, it can go back down to PG or PG-13, but the writers really need to take off the kid gloves with this one.

Wrapping up

The MCU has rarely disappointed us, so we are going into “Blade” with loads of optimism. However, if Steve Rogers doesn’t shout “language” at least 50 times during the course of this movie, we won’t be happy.

Guide to Marvel Phase 4: Everything you need to know

From Blade to female Thor, Marvel revealed so much at Comic-Con!

Portman Thor

To say the MCU dropped a bomb at their Comic-Con panel this year would be an understatement. They dropped a nuke on the stage and then dropped a few smaller bombs while they were at it.

At the Comic-Con panel, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige along with an abundance of actors, actresses, and filmmakers gave us details on five Disney+ shows, five Phase 4 movies, and a few other projects.

There is a LOT to talk about. Once you’re done reading this article, let’s take the discussion to the comments section below to keep the conversation and the speculation going!

Guide to Marvel Phase 4

Phase 4

It is important to point out that although this is Marvel’s current complete line-up for Phase 4, Feige says things can change:

For example, as Phase 2 was ending in 2015, Marvel Studios acquired the rights to put Spider-Man in their films. Obviously, this changed up the future of Phase 3 quite significantly with Spider-Man appearing in five movies including two of his own.

The Disney+ shows

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Falcon and Winter Soldier

“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” will feature Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan reprising their roles. It is coming out in fall of 2020, and deals with the two character’s lives after the events of “Avengers: Endgame.”

Falcon has a new weight on his shoulders as he is now expected to take up the mantle of Captain America after Steve Rogers went back in time for that long-awaited dance.

Along with Stan and Mackie, Daniel Brühl will be returning to reprise his role as Baron Zemo. Zemo was the main villain in “Captain America: Civil War.” His family was killed during the events of “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” and since he didn’t fully get his revenge in “Civil War,” he may want to continue to dismantle the Avengers in “Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”

Loki

During “Avengers: Endgame” the Loki of 2012 made a quick getaway by stealing the Space Stone. “Loki” for Disney+ will follow the God of Mischief as he makes his way through the universe.

Wait, didn’t Loki die?

Yes, he did die in “Avengers: Infinity War.” However, the show will be following an alternate timeline Loki. This Loki hasn’t gone through the character development Loki experienced in “Thor 2: The Dark World” and “Thor: Ragnarok,” so he is in need of redemption. Apparently, this Loki will be traveling throughout the universe with the Space Stone getting into loads of adventures along the way.

Hopefully, since he has an Infinity Stone, his path may cross with Thanos and we’ll get to see Josh Brolin’s return!

“Loki” will be released on Disney+ in Spring of 2021.

WandaVision

Both Scarlett Witch and Vision will return for new adventures in “WandaVision.”

Wait, isn’t Vision dead?

Yes, Thanos ripped the Mind Stone from Vision’s forehead.

However, as we have seen, the MCU is not afraid to bring people back from the dead. Just ask, Agent Coulson, Loki, and everyone that died in the Snap. We expect that Black Panther’s sister Shuri might be able to use her tech to bring him back, or Scarlet Witch will just magic him back from the dead.

Feige promised that characters will return in the show, including Monica Rambeau. Her character was in “Captain Marvel,” which took place in the ’90s. Now, she is a grown woman, and she’s ready to get into the action in “WandaVision.”

Events in the show are expected to lead into “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” Also, Elizabeth Olsen will be playing Scarlet Witch in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” but more on that later.

“WandaVision” will be released on Disney+ in Spring of 2021.

What If

In the summer of 2021, Disney+ will feature the first animated endeavor in the MCU.

“What If” tackles alternative scenarios in the MCU. More specifically, it tackles “what if” situations. These are scenarios where things didn’t go the way they went in the MCU. They are named after the comics that bear the same name.

Most of the MCU alumni from the movies will return to voice their characters, but there is no official list of who will return. However, we do know that the following will be included:

  • Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger
  • Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier
  • Josh Brolin as Thanos
  • Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk
  • Tom Hiddleston as Loki
  • Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury
  • Chris Hemsworth as Thor
  • Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter
  • Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther
  • Karen Gillan as Nebula
  • Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye
  • Paul Rudd as Ant-Man
  • Michael Douglas as Hank Pym
  • Neal McDonough as Dum Dum Dugan
  • Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark
  • Sean Gunn as Kraglin
  • Natalie Portman as Jane Foster
  • Taika Waititi as Korg
  • Toby Jones as Arnim Zola
  • Djimon Hounsou as Korath
  • Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster
  • Michael Rooker as Yondu

Since they weren’t listed, we doubt Chris Evans will return as Captain America or Robert Downey Jr. will return as Iron Man for the first season. However, if they show does well, they might come back for a second season.

The show will also bring on Jeffrey Wright who will play the Watcher. The Watcher is a being in the Marvel universe who observes history unfold, but does not get involved. You might remember seeing several Watchers in “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2.”

Hawkeye

In the fall of 2021, Clint Barton will begin training Kate Bishop to become the newest bow-and-arrow-wielding master in “Hawkeye.”

Jeremy Renner and Kevin Feige remained pretty tight-lipped about this project. This is probably because it’s more than two years away and a lot can change.

However, we do know that the series will dive into Barton’s time as Ronin. Between “Avengers: Infinity War,” and “Avengers: Endgame,” Barton began ridding the world of evildoers who survived Thanos’ snap. He did this under the guise of “Ronin.” It could be that the sins of Barton’s past may come back to haunt him.

The movies

Endgame

Black Widow

TaskMaster

It might seem a bit odd, but the MCU will kick off Phase 4 with a prequel.

Set during the events of Agent Romanoff’s famous Budapest mission, “Black Widow” will dive into the agent’s origins, her previous relationships, and the red in her ledger.

Fans at Comic-Con got to see a small teaser which Disney is adamantly trying to make sure stays off YouTube, but we did hear about what it showed:

Along with lots of awesome Black Widow stunts, the trailer showed Widow’s sister character Yelena as her relationship with Romanoff develops.

Finally, the trailer ended with a brief glimpse at another villain in the movie, which many fans speculate is Taskmaster. Taskmaster is a mercenary as well as a sort of supervillain coach. Basically, he is sometimes hired to help train people on how to be villains.

He’s basically Robbie Rotten meets The Punisher:

Oscar-winner Rachel Weisz will be playing Melina Vostokoff aka Iron Maiden. Iron Maiden is one of the classic villains in the Black Widow comics. Finally, David Harbour is joining the cast as Red Guardian, a Soviet superhero. Funny enough, Red Guardian’s real name is Alexei, which is the name of the Russian that Harbour’s character joins forces with in “Stranger Things.”

The Eternals

Eternals

If your Marvel knowledge is only confined to their most popular characters, then you;ve probably never heard about the Eternals.

Basically, they are ACTUALLY Earth’s mightiest heroes. The Eternals are immortal cosmic beings (basically, they’re aliens) that have godlike powers and abilities. Millions of years ago, Celestials (that’s the same species as Star-Lord’s dad) looked at early humanity and created two additional races. They created a disgusting, monstrous race called the Deviants. They also created the advanced Eternals.

We do not know much about the plot for the movie, but we do know several members of the film’s cast. This includes Salma Hayek who plays the leader of the Eternals, Ajak, and Angelina Jolie who will star as Thena.

One thing to point out is that Thanos himself was a member of the Eternals in the comics. It will be interesting to see if the MCU will dive into that plot point once the film comes out in November of 2020.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Shang Chi

Much like the Eternals, you’ve probably never heard about Shang-Chi.

Without question, he’s probably the least-known Marvel superhero to get a standalone MCU movie.

He’s a martial arts master who can also duplicate himself.

As you probably know, in “Iron Man 3” Ben Kingsley played a fake version of the villain the Mandarin. However, as you might not know, Marvel created a short called “All Hail the King,” where we learned that there is a real Mandarin who is not happy about what has happened to his name.

Thankfully, we are going to get to see the Mandarin in all of his glory as he graces the screen in “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.”

The Ten Rings is a terrorist organization who has been involved in the MCU since the start. They kidnapped Tony Stark, assisted Whiplash, and they even infiltrated Pym Laboratories!

Look at the neck tattoo on the guy with the beard. Does that emblem look familiar?

We don’t know who will be the next big bad guy in the MCU, but the Ten Rings and the Mandarin would be a phenomenal choice. The Mandarin’s mystic arts could create a new web of problems for the Avengers resulting in some great movies. Whether it’s a hit or a flop, we will find out in February of 2021.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Doctor Strange

I wonder if in those 14 million futures Doctor Strange saw, he saw his character going down this route.

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” will be Marvel’s first dive into the world of horror.

No, it will not be rated R. According to Feige, the movie will be rated PG-13.

Although we don’t know much about the movie, we do know that the events of “WandaVision” will lead into the movie. Also, Scarlet Witch herself will be a main character in the film. Whether or not Vision will make an appearance is yet to be known, however, if we get more awesome scenes like Strange’s fight with Thanos, we will be happy campers.

Thor: Love and Thunder

Finally, bringing Phase 4 to a close will be “Thor: Love and Thunder” in November of 2021.

Chris Hemsworth will be returning as the God of Thunder, and Tessa Thompson will be returning as Valkyrie. Speaking of whom, Marvel confirmed that Valkyrie will be the MCU’s first openly LGBTQ superhero!

The movie will take place after the events of “Avengers: Endgame” with Thor soul-searching for the next stage of his life. However, the next stage of his life might just be the end because a new Thor is set to make her debut.

Female Thor

That’s right, the female version of Thor will be featured in “Thor: Love and Thunder!” Even better, Natalie Portman will be reprising her role as Jane Foster who will wield the hammer and become the new Thor.

In the comics, Thor loses his powers and the ability to wield his hammer. However, a successor is deemed worthy as a new female character becomes the new Thor.

Clearly, Natalie Portman is worthy to wield the hammer. However, are you?

Other projects

Blade

At the end of the panel, Mahershala Ali surprised everyone by coming on stage. At the request of Feige, he donned a baseball cap with “Blade” written across it.

Wait, haven’t there already been a few Blade movies?

Between the late ’90s and the mid-2000s, Wesley Snipes starred in three Blade movies. Although they do have a few fans, they never really attained a huge audience, and they especially never made MCU money. However, the R rating in each film meant that we got lots of gore and lots of adult language.

Blade is part-human and part-vampire, but he isn’t a fan of that second half of his DNA. He hunts down and kills vampires across the world.

Yes, vampires exist in the Marvel universe.

He uses a wide array of weapons including guns, anti-vampire gear, knives, and explosives. However, he is best known for fighting off vampires with a samurai sword.

The movie will not be a part of Phase 4, so don’t expect to see anything about it until 2022.

Pretty much none of us anticipated a new Blade movie, but now all anyone can think is how could we NOT want a new Blade movie. If the MCU FINALLY gives us a movie with an R rating, we will be overjoyed. (Remember R-rated “Deadpool” wasn’t a part of the official MCU until Disney acquired Fox earlier this year.)

Think about it. How can you give us a gory, vampire slasher that’s not rated R?

Untitled Fantastic Four movie

Although it was only for a second, we did hear from Feige that Marvel Studios is working on a Fantastic Four movie.

Wait, haven’t we had, like, a million Fantastic Four movies?

We have had three Fantastic Four movies and none of them has been very good. The movie “Fantastic Four” in 2015 with Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan is arguably one of the worst superhero movies ever made:

Hopefully, Disney and Marvel can do the Fantastic Four justice. It will all start with a great cast, so hopefully, Reed Richards, Susan Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm will finally get their due.

*cough *cough Cast John Krasinski as Reed Richards *cough *cough.

A Fantastic Four movie might mean that Doctor Doom is coming to the MCU. If he does, then we might just the next big villain to take the reins from Thanos.

Stuff we know is coming:

Although none of these got trailers, we did hear word that we will be getting the following sequels:

  • Captain Marvel 2
  • Black Panther 2
  • Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3
  • A bunch more Spider-Man movies

The mutants and the X-Men are coming

Don’t worry, the X-Men were mentioned by Feige at Comic-Con.

The X-Men/mutants will be in the MCU in the future. We might not know where they will fit in, but we hope to hear more about them soon!

 Wrapping up

Wow, that was a LOT to cover.

From the Disney+ shows, to the array of new movies, we have so much to look forward to in the next two years. Right now, we are betting that “Thor: Love and Thunder” will be the best movie of the lot. However, we will be happy to be proven wrong!

Fake Black Widow trailer gets 9 million views

Agent Romanoff’s dark beginnings take the stage in the fake trailer for the Black Widow movie.

Black Widow

Someone trolled us hard, but it looks so good we can’t even be mad. An upcoming Black Widow movie has been confirmed and we already know the director (Cate Shortland). There have even been a few set photos leaked. With the release date TBA, the environment is just right for someone truly evil to release a fake trailer. That someone was a YouTuber named ModeMarvelous. Here’s the (nearly believable) result:

The fake trailer has gotten more than 9 million views, and we’re not sure whether to be angry. On the one hand, it’s not real. It’s not fun being lied to, especially when people are so excited for any details regarding the movie. On the other hand, it’s hard to knock the quality. Okay, so that ID definitely says ‘Lucy,’ from Johansson’s 2014 movie but hey, she’s a spy, right? It’s a fake name!

The worst part is that this trailer looks like it’d make for a legitimately good movie. We see Black Widow going through her initial training, kicking butt as a spy, and meeting Hawkeye for the first time in a place that could pass for Budapest. It hurts to find out someone’s been crying wolf, but hey – at least we’ve got these cool leaked set photos?

Whether Taskmaster is going to be an actual villain is also anyone’s guess (though we think he’d be a perfect choice). Production for the actual Black Widow movie began in June, and there’s no actual trailer for it yet. If we do get one from Marvel this year, the bar is set pretty high.

Let us know in the comments below whether you’d go see the movie based on this sadly unofficial trailer!

Top 10 MCU fight scenes

Buckle up for the best battles in MCU history.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been knocking it out of the park the past 10+ years, and with “Avengers: Endgamereturning to theaters alongside the premier of “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” Phase 3 is coming to a close. From heartfelt conversations to joke scenes to empowering, character-defining moments, at the end of the day these films are still inspired by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee and the multiverse they helped create. Considering these are blockbuster movies based on comic books, popcorn-munching fight scenes are around practically every corner.

Some of these fight scenes are for the visual spectacle, others are big turning points for characters, and others are climactic showdowns that took several movies to build up to. Fight scenes are a big part of the MCU, but which ones were the most memorable? We took a walk down memory lane and composed a list of what we think are the top 10 combat scenes in the MCU:

10. Dr. Strange versus Dormammu

Doctor Strange Dormammu

In one corner we have Dormammu, an otherworldy entity who can enslave and destroy entire dimensions. In the other corner: Stephen Strange, a relatively inexperienced (but very determined) Sorcerer Supreme who’s barely gotten used to the title. You can’t get a much better underdog story than that.

What puts this finale of “Doctor Strange” on our list is that it’s not even really a fight scene; it’s a battle of wills, and Dr. Strange emerges victorious. By creating a time loop with the Time Stone, he’s essentially able to annoy Dormammu into letting Earth go free. “Pain is an old friend,” he says to the titanic otherworldly being, and in that moment we know it’s not the Sorcerer Supreme who beat be baddie – it was the surgeon with broken hands.

9. Hulk versus Thanos

Avengers Infinity War Hulk vs Thanos

When the Hulk gets involved it’s game over for whoever he’s up against. Just look what happened to poor Loki in “Avengers.” That’s why jaws dropped when Thanos was able to knock the big green guy to the floor in under a minute. It’s the first time we’ve seen the Hulk lose a fight, and it happens right out of the gate, in the first few minutes of “Avengers: Infinity War.”

What makes this loss hit even harder is “Infinity War” takes place literal minutes after “Thor: Ragnarok,” a movie where Hulk is the grand champion of Sakaar, beats up Thor, and goes toe-to-toe with both Surtur and Hela. To have Thanos take out the Avengers’ biggest gun right from the start is a gut-punching shock, and it makes our list for being one of the most powerful narrative fight scenes in the series.

8. Iron Man versus Thor

Avengers Thor Iron Man Captain America

“Avengers” was one of the best (and historically important) films in the MCU, and it’s because we finally get to see our heroes come together to become the team Nick Fury hinted at as early as “Iron Man.” The team is hardly ready to work together at first encounter, however, and the first time it comes to blows is when its two most hotheaded members meet up in a forest after Thor swoops down to capture Loki.

It’s the classic instance of magic versus technology, and we learn that Thor’s lightning actually helps power Tony’s suit – a trick that would come in handy later on. When Captain America comes down to stop the fight, Thor swings down on his shield, proving that the metal of the three matches their mettle, and all are capable combatants in their own right. An unspoken respect is shared between the three from that point moving forward, but it’s this initial clash that paved the way.

7. Winter Soldier versus everybody

Cap pulls helicopter

Zemo has taken control of Bucky’s mind, and the poor guy’s going full rampage – or at least as full rampage as you can get with minimal access to weapons. The titular civil war hasn’t happened yet, but this scene is fuel for the fire that “Captain America: Civil War” is all about.

This scene is a rare instance in which none of our heroes are geared up for a fight; Black Widow even tells Tony “I hope you brought a suit,” and Tony quips back that “it’s a nice three-piece.” The battle breaks out without warning, and that means we get to see them armed with little but their training and wits (and superhuman enhancements for a few of them). Everyone tries to take a crack at the Winter Soldier, and he keeps them at bay, culminating in Cap bringing down a helicopter with his bulging biceps. What’s not to love?

6. Nebula versus Gamora

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Nebula

Nebula and Gamora have been at each other’s throats since childhood. We saw them going at it in “Guardians of the Galaxy,” but it’s nothing like this fight in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.” Gamora is sitting contemplatively in a field when Nebula streaks out of the sky in a ship, murder in her eyes. It turns into a knock-down, drag-’em-out fight in an eerie cavern beneath the ground, and there’s no holds barred from either of them. Nebula finally gets the upper hand … and can’t bring herself to kill Gamora.

Then she says the line that changes their relationship from that point forward: “You were the one who wanted to win, and I just wanted a sister!” It’s a pivotal moment in their relationship, and starts her on her journey into the Nebula we see in “Avengers: Endgame.”

5. Killmonger versus T’Challa

Killmonger T'Challa waterfall fight

By the second waterfall fight in “Black Panther” the audience already knows the ritualistic significance of the combat. T’Challa’s earlier battle here with M’Baku serves as a comparison to what is perhaps his darkest moment: T’Challa cannot beat Killmonger in this fight, and as a result, his mentor Zuri is killed in front of him.

Zuri’s death breaks T’Challa’s discipline, and for the first time we see a crack in his usual calm, cool demeanor. Killmonger puts that crack under the spotlight. “Is this your king?” he taunts. T’Challa’s spirit is broken, and his body follows shortly after. This fight makes our top 5 because (aside from the awesome choreography and backdrop) this is the real turning point in “Black Panther,” and really sets up the later conflict between Killmonger and T’Challa.

4. The Airport Battle

Civil War airport battle

If there was a single MCU fight that was all about the spectacle, it was this one from “Captain America: Civil War.” The fight at the airport was made for the fans, and it’s chock full of quips (including the first time we see the new Spider-Man fight!) and consists of a bunch of our favorite characters duking it out with each other because of … the Sokovia Accords? Or maybe it’s got something to do with the Winter Soldier? Eh, who cares, this is epic.

On one side you’ve got Cap, Falcon, Ant-Man, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, and Bucky.

On the other side is Iron Man, Black Panther, Black Widow, Spider-Man, War Machine, and Vision.

The fight gets progressively more ridiculous as it goes, reaching its zenith when Ant-Man gets huge and starts wreaking havoc. It’s all fun and games until Vision misfires and forever cripples Rhodey with a misfired blast from the Mind Stone. It’s this moment that juxtaposes the silly fun, and puts the civil war into perspective, properly raising the stakes.

3. Winter Soldier versus Captain America

Winter Soldier punches Cap shield

Captain America: Winter Soldier” was a game changer in many ways: Cap’s trying to make ends meet in modern day, HYDRA has infiltrated SHIELD, Nick Fury is compromised, and suddenly no one knows who to trust. To make matters worse, the mysterious Winter Soldier is somehow mixed up in all this, and Steve and Natasha end up facing off with him in the streets.

In what’s arguably the best-choreographed fight of the entire MCU, the Winter Soldier puts two Avengers on the ropes, even daring to fight in CQC with Captain America, a step into the ring that few can handle. The scene  ends with the Winter Soldier unmasked. Steve manages to croak out his friend’s name, to which he responds, “Who the hell is Bucky?” There are powerful forces at work here, Cap. Powerful forces indeed. Between the excellent combat, fluid camera direction, and the huge significance this has on the plot, this one makes our top three.

2. Everybody versus Thanos

Avengers Infinity War Thanos fight Titan

“Infinity War” started with Thanos killing a ship full of Asgardians, curb-stomping the Hulk, killing Loki (which we’re still not okay with), and overpowering Thor. It’s not until Iron Man, Spider-Man, Dr. Strange, and the Guardians of the Galaxy reach Thanos’ homeworld of Titan that they also get to try their hand against the big purple guy. Thanos at this point has four Infinity Stones, and the fight sequence is a series of coordinated attacks trying to wrest the Gauntlet away from him.

Besides just being visually spectacular, this scene cleverly uses all the Avengers’ talents in tandem, and we get to see just how powerful Thanos really is; in the end, even that isn’t enough. Strange sacrifices the Time Stone to save Tony’s life … because it’s the only way they’ll make it to the endgame.

1. Avengers Assemble

Avengers Endgame Thanos army

Ever since “Infinity War,” our heroes have been dying for some payback with the Mad Titan. At the climax of the “Endgame,” Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America step outside to see Thanos (currently without the Gauntlet or any Infinity Stones) awaiting their approach. It’s been a long five years for the Avengers, and now’s their chance for redemption.

Thanos is still a formidable foe, even without the Infinity Stones, and even their combined strength still isn’t enough. The Avengers give it their all: Iron Man gets his second crack at the big guy, Thor works right alongside him and dual-wields hammers, and Captain America steals the show by lifting Mjolnir in what is probably the best moment in the film.

Avengers Engame Cap stands alone

We could stop right there, but it only gets better from that point. In a moment of unmatched heroism, Captain America stands alone against the alien hordes of Thanos … or so it seems. Portals open up, and our favorite heroes get to come join the fight: Black Panther, Okoye, and Shuri; Falcon, Dr. Strange, and Wong; Spider-Man, Valkyrie, Wasp, Pepper, and the Guardians of the Galaxy; and eventually Captain Marvel as the ace up the sleeve. It’s the lineup everyone was waiting for, and the battle to end all battles.

Complete MCU timeline explained

Confused about Marvel’s timelines? This video should help!

Avengers Endgame Captain America fight

With “Avengers: Endgame” and the upcoming “Spider-Man: Far From Home“, we’re quickly wrapping up Marvel’s Phase 3. For the avid Marvel fan there’s a wealth of awesome content in the past 10 years of movies, but for the novice who’s looking to hop aboard the hype train, there’s something of a learning curve.

Even if you’ve been following these films since Jon Favreau kicked them off with “Iron Man” in 2008, you might be scratching your head trying to remember whether Odin’s father killed the Dark Elves before Red Skull was born. Or maybe you’ve got no idea when Thanos adopted Gamora. Perhaps you can’t quite recall how many times the Tesseract traded hands. Lucky for us, Looper recently put out this handy timeline video that charts out the entire MCU timeline – everything from the Big Bang up to “Far From Home.” So strap in and buckle up; it’s a bumpy ride!

This video does a great job of fitting in all the concurrent events, and only slipped up on a few small details:

1. Ultron used the Mind Stone to create Vision, not the Soul Stone.

2. Zemo didn’t control Bucky to assassinate T’chaka; he did it himself while wearing a mask.

3. While this mentions “Agent Carter” it doesn’t bring up the littany of other Marvel Netflix shows, such as “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage,” “Daredevil,” or “Defenders.” Techincally these are canon too!

We hope this timeline helps straighten out some of the foggier details of the MCU.

‘Avengers: Endgame’ to be re-released with more footage, end credits scene

Endgame is being released again with more footage and a post-credit scene, but will it be worth it?

Endgame

Sometimes $2.7 billion just isn’t enough.

President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige revealed that “Avengers: Endgame” will be re-released in theaters next week with more footage. This includes an end-credit scene.

“Endgame” is a little less than $50 million away from toppling “Avatar” for the title of the highest-grossing film of all time. The move by Marvel appears to be a last-ditch effort to take the crown.

What is the footage/is it worth sitting through the movie again?

Feige did not tell us what we will see in the new footage. However, footage from the set of “Avengers: Endgame” hints at additional scenes of Iron Man and Doctor Strange.

If all we are going to see is a few comedic scenes of the duo, paying $10-$15 for a ticket to see the 3-hour-long movie again hardly seems worth it.

However, there are things that we would like to see:

  • Show us how Thanos was able to travel through time. Nebula had to use her Pym Particles and time ring to travel back to the present, so how did Thanos bring himself let alone his entire army? Give us just a quick scene explaining this, and we’ll be happy. Seriously, this one has been bugging us.
  • Show more than five minutes of Captain Marvel. We only got to see her briefly in the beginning and at the end. Just a little more time with her would’ve been nice.
  • Give us another action scene. Aside from a brief Cap-on-Cap tussle, the movie only has one major fight scene. If we had another in the middle of the film, it would dramatically help the pacing.
  • Give us a better idea of everyone who was snapped, and who wasn’t. We can make some assumptions about those who did die, but we’re a bit clueless on some others. It seems that Marvel didn’t want to keep anyone alive that they weren’t comfortable with aging for five years. However, did Aunt May have to live five years without knowing what happened to Peter? Did someone else become the Black Panther or become Wakanda’s king while T’Challa was dead? What happened to the governments of the world? Come on, Marvel! Give us an answer!

If Marvel gives us just one of these things, we can condone buying another ticket.

What can we expect from the end-credit scene?

Endgame Thor

We’re going to assume that whatever major plot point for the future of the MCU will be revealed in the end-credit scene for “Spider-Man: Far From Home.” That movie has been in the works for a while, and this move appears to be a relatively quick decision.

However, we might still get something cool that hints at the potential future for the MCU after Endgame. We don’t expect to see Wolverine walk on screen and talk about the X-Men initiative, but we might get a first look at another new project.

So should we see it again?

If you are a hardcore Marvel fan, you should go see it, but with low expectations. Remember, if there was an earth-shattering plot point that made the movie better, they would have put it in the original release.

If you’re a moderate fan, you probably don’t need to see the movie a second time. In this case, we’d recommend just waiting for the deleted scenes to drop on YouTube.

Watch fat Thor sing ‘Hurt’

Thor hurt himself today, to see if he still feels. He focused on the pain; the only thing that’s real.

Fat Thor singing

Last night, Chris Hemsworth went on “The Tonight Show” and shared video of himself dressed as Thor from Avengers: Endgame singing Johnny Cash’s cover of “Hurt.” And it’s amazing:

Today, Hemsworth tweeted out an even longer cut of the God of Thunder wallowing in acoustic self-pity:

First off, who knew that Hemsworth could play the guitar so well? Secondly, this video is hilarious.

After Thanos killed half of all life in the universe and destroyed the Infinity Stones, Thor went off the deep end. He fell into a pit of depression and drowned his sorrows in beer and Fortnite (Not kidding).

However, when opportunity strikes to undo Thanos’s genocide, Thor discovers that his failures do not make him unworthy as he sets off to avenge the fallen.

‘Hurt’ is originally by Nine Inch Nails, but most people like the Johnny Cash cover better.

Hopefully, we will see more of the cast of “Avengers: Endgame” show off their musical talents. Maybe we can hear Spider-Man sing “Dust in the Wind,” or Black Widow sing “Free Falling.” (Too soon?)
