Emma Heming Willis, wife of the renowned actor Bruce Willis, has responded to the criticism that has arisen following the announcement that the artist, diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, lives in a “second home” with 24-hour care. In a special titled Emma and Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey, aired last Tuesday, Emma shared that this difficult decision was made for the benefit of their daughters, Mabel and Evelyn, who, according to her, require a home adapted to their needs.

Bruce, you will always be our McClane

Bruce Willis was initially diagnosed with aphasia in the spring of 2022, and his condition later worsened, leading to a diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia. Emma explained that communication has been one of the biggest challenges of this disease. “Unfortunately, the challenges with communication are just a symptom of the disease that Bruce is facing”, she commented in February 2023.

In response to the criticism, Emma highlighted the work of ABC News in raising awareness about frontotemporal dementia and the importance of the role of caregivers. She emphasized that in complex situations like this, the voices of those without real experience carry little weight. “If you don’t have experience in this, you can’t have an opinion”, Emma stated in a video posted on her Instagram account.

“The truth is that opinions are very strong and loud”, she added. The decision for Bruce to live in a second home was considered one of the most difficult she has made. However, she emphasized that this choice aims to provide a more suitable environment for her daughters and that, despite the distance, she visits him at least twice a day. “It is our second home, full of love, warmth, and affection”, Emma concluded.
