Chainsaw Man, the anime based on the work of Tatsuki Fujimoto, has managed to capture the attention of fans since its premiere in 2022 thanks to its unusual protagonist with a chainsaw on his head. In order to celebrate its success and help followers catch up with the story, Crunchyroll has announced the release of two recap movies titled The Compilation, which will arrive on the platform in September.

He saw that you see him!

The movies will include revised episodes from the first season of the anime and new content through Chainsaw Days, an adaptation of extra episodes from the original manga. The first part covers the story up to the Eternity Demon, while the second will conclude the season’s arc. This initiative aims to rekindle interest in the series, especially after the first season concluded at the end of 2022, leaving a gap in the programming that other works, such as Solo Leveling, tried to fill.

The great return of Chainsaw Man does not stop on digital platforms. On October 31, Chainsaw Man: The Movie – The Reze Arc will premiere in theaters, extending its reach to audiences in countries like Spain. This movie promises to continue the excitement and intense battles that have defined the series.

This year is significant for anime, as Chainsaw Man joins other productions like Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, and My Hero Academia, which have also made a remarkable transition to the big screen. The growth of the genre is undeniable, and with figures from platforms like Netflix reflecting its increasing popularity, it is clear that anime is at its peak. However, there are also rumors suggesting that the industry may continue to explore other narrative universes, which opens doors to new stories and characters in the future.

The Chainsaw Man anime announces its first movie

Chainsaw Man has announced that, following the success of its series, it will have a movie adapting one of the arcs and beloved characters by fans.

Beyond the craziness of its plots and the carefulness of its animation, there is one element that has made people fall in love with Chainsaw Man: the charisma of its characters. It’s hard not to be captivated by them. They have their quirks, their weaknesses, and their strengths, feeling fully human. They are not mere fantasies. They are complex individuals, often pathetic, for whom it is easy to feel deep sympathy.

Now Chainsaw Man has announced that it will have its first movie. Called Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, as its name indicates, it will adapt the Reze arc. One that is especially beloved and known by manga readers.

The arc revolves around Reze, a girl whom Denji, the protagonist, will meet and quickly become close to. Focusing on the love story, grievances, and all the drama surrounding both characters, who consider themselves unlovable, the story is particularly dramatic and tragic. With several unexpected twists that slightly change the tone of what has been seen so far in the series.

Adapting it into a movie is particularly interesting because, in fact, the inspiration for this manga arc was a movie. The manga author, Tatsuki Fujimoto, has stated that his main influence for this arc was the movie Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade, by Hiroyuki Okiura and Mamoru Oshii. Something evident given that both works start in a very similar way, besides having a similar tone in certain moments.

We still don’t have more information about the movie, except that the actress who will voice Reze is Reina Ueda. It is expected that the movie will be released, or at least we will have more information, throughout 2024. And if you want to catch up with the series, you have its complete first season available on Crunchyroll.

From Triumph to Tragedy: Chainsaw Man Author’s Surprising Announcement Stuns Fans

The problem is that, speaking with his Shueisha editors, he has stated that he wouldn’t mind hanging up the pencils for once and simply focusing on telling his story and having someone else draw it.

Chainsaw Man’ is, undeniably, one of the most famous manga of recent times. Although from the outside it looks like a Japanese nonsense, the truth is that as soon as you start reading it you enter the world that its author, Tatsuki Fujimoto, offers and that has complex personalities, extreme situations, fun without complexes and the feeling that this is not just another manga. The problem is that you’re already tired of it.

Chainsaw man’ lasted only two years after which Fujimoto was able to take a well-deserved rest (the life of mangakas is terrifying and is based on work and sleep), but now he has started with the second part of the misadventures of Denji and company. The problem is that talking to his editors at Shueisha, he has stated that he wouldn’t mind hanging up his pencils for good and simply focus on telling his story and having someone else draw it.

He gives as an example the author of ‘Oshi no ko’, Aka Akasaka (an incredible name, by the way) who after achieving success as a mangaka with his previous work has retired from drawing and is only dedicated to being a scriptwriter. “I think it’s more fun that way,” he says. Although he hasn’t thought about who to give it to or how to do it, the truth is that he hardly uses assistants because they cost a lot of money that he has to pay, as he showed in his manga ‘Look Back’.

In the end, Fujimoto has to deliver 20 pages every Tuesday to continue ‘Chainsaw Man’, which means about three a day. Scripting, drawing, inking and plotting: it may look easy from the outside if you’ve never drawn before, but it’s not. It’s a stressful job and one that causes a number of mental and physical problems, so if the body asks you to leave, the vast majority of fans agree.

He won’t be the first or the last manga to have different authors for script and drawing (‘Bakuman’, ‘Death note’) and there’s nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, there are plenty of up-and-coming mangakas who copy his style and could very well be in charge of delivering the pages every week while he goes about, well, living his life a little better. Which is no small thing.
