The absence of Leon Kennedy in the trailer for Resident Evil Requiem has generated a sea of speculation among fans of the iconic horror saga. Despite rumors about his inclusion, the trailer focused on the new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, heroine of Resident Evil Outbreak. This decision has led many fans to question Leon’s future role in the game.
Leon would not be a good protagonist (according to a man who already lied to us at the Summer Game Fest)
Director Koshi Nakanishi has made it clear that, in his opinion, Leon is not a good protagonist for the horror genre. In a recent video, Nakanishi commented that “making a horror game centered around him is complicated,” suggesting that the character would not be “the type of person who would jump at a noise.” However, this has not stopped the belief that Leon could return as a playable character. Reliable rumors indicate that there will be at least two playable characters, and some insiders, like the well-known leaker Dusk Golem, believe that Leon will be “the protagonist” of the game.
The Resident Evil community is divided between those who believe that Grace will take on the main role and those who hold out hope that Leon will return to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the franchise. It is worth noting that Capcom has managed to capture players’ attention with a demo considered one of the scariest in the series, which intensifies interest in the title.
Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled for release on February 27 for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. Many players are eagerly awaiting whether Leon Kennedy will have a place in the narrative or if he will finally be relegated to a non-playable appearance, generating greater anxiety around the upcoming game revelations.
