Nintendo is fighting with Discord to reveal the identity of the hacker behind the biggest Pokémon leak

Documents related to art, design, and development material of Pokémon have been released following the massive teraleak, prompting Nintendo to take legal action. Nintendo is fighting with Discord to reveal the identity of the hacker behind the biggest Pokémon leak

Documents related to art, design, and development material for Pokémon have been released following the massive teraleak, prompting Nintendo to take legal action. The company has requested a court order from Discord to identify the user known as GameFreakOUT, the alleged hacker behind the leak. This individual is accused of having accessed confidential information from Game Freak, the developer of Pokémon, and of having shared a valuable treasure trove of content, which includes development sprites, concept art from the original 1997 anime, design lore, and meeting minutes from the company.

The hacker is praying that Discord does not grant

According to Polygon, Nintendo has filed a petition in a California court for a subpoena under the DMCA that would compel Discord to reveal the identity of GameFreakOUT, which could include name, address, and other contact information. This request marks a first step that could result in serious legal consequences for the leaker. Historically, Nintendo has shown to be very protective of its intellectual properties and has been willing to take legal action against those it believes have crossed the line.

The case of Gary Bowser, who was sentenced to three years in prison and fined millions for selling software to modify Nintendo consoles, illustrates the company’s firm stance on copyright issues. Although the consequences for GameFreakOUT are unlikely to be as severe, given that it has not financially benefited from the leak, the case could take a complicated turn if legal action is taken.

A previous case related to Pokémon leaks also resulted in a lawsuit, where the leakers were ordered to pay $150,000 each. Given the magnitude of the teraleak, it is very likely that Nintendo will seek a strong response to deter future similar incidents.

A 72-year-old retiree has found a new purpose and happiness through Pokémon GO, a mobile video game that combines physical exercise with entertainment. Following a medical recommendation to increase her physical activity, the woman decided to try the popular game, thanks to her son’s suggestion. Since then, her life has changed, turning daily walks into an exciting adventure where she can catch Pokémon and participate in raids.

One thing is to play Pokémon GO, another is to do it like she does

What makes the story even more striking is that this enthusiastic player has taken her passion to the next level by using up to six mobile devices at the same time. This approach allows her not only to reduce waiting times between actions but also to maximize her participation in battles and fights within the game. By having multiple accounts, she is better equipped to face challenges in raids and competitions like the Dynamax.

To manage all these devices effectively, a friend designed a clever solution for her: a wooden table that holds each of the phones, attached to her neck. This way, she can play comfortably while walking, enjoying long periods of outdoor activity. This invention not only provides her with comfort but also allows her children and grandchildren to join her, taking the opportunity to share family moments while exploring the virtual world of Pokémon GO.

Although the game allows the option to play from home, the experience is significantly enriched by going out into the street, which this retiree has fully embraced. In this way, she has become an example of how technology and video games can improve the social life and health of older adults.

We were about to have Pokémon Z, and we have the proof!

When in 2013 the Nintendo 3DS released Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, we all assumed that, just like in previous generations, there would be a third one to complement them. In fact, until that moment, only Black and White had eliminated it, and that was because they had a second part planned. With the combos of Red-Blue-Yellow; Gold-Silver-Crystal; Ruby-Sapphire-Emerald and Diamond-Pearl-Platinum, everything seemed to indicate that Pokémon Z was on its way… but it never came. I don’t choose you! In fact, three years later Sun and Moon arrived, which also didn’t have an alternative version, and it became a cliché […]

I don’t choose you!

In fact, three years later, Sun and Moon arrived, which also did not have an alternative version, and it became a cliché of the franchise. At least for a while, Game Freak was considering making Pokémon Z, or that’s what we gather from the hacked files: we would return to Kalos and see the Legendary Zygarde with a new form.

In short, there were plans on the table, but in the end, they decided there would be no continuation of any kind: neither a third version, a DLC, or a sequel. In fact, it probably didn’t go any further because there isn’t a single mention of Z, at least in the documents leaked so far. Anyway, Kalos will return in the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which may serve as a spiritual successor a decade later.

In the end, everything seems to indicate that Game Freak used the complete form of Zygarde, but did so in Sun and Moon. In fact, fans always found it strange that it appeared in Alola, a region where it didn’t even appear for the first time. This could be the explanation: since it was created for Z, they decided not to let it be forgotten. In Pokémon, as in stew, everything is used.

That said, it may also be that none of this is official. In the end, a handful of inconsistencies have slipped into the gigantic leak that had nothing to do with reality. There is still much more to discover.
