At the Pokemon Presents event, although it may seem unexpected, we have witnessed the announcement of several novelties such as a new video game titled Pokémon Champions that celebrates the 29th anniversary of the franchise. This title will be available on Nintendo Switch and mobile devices with iOS and Android systems, although a specific release date has not yet been specified.
Pokémon Champions promises to centralize the Pokémon battle experience in one place, emphasizing the technical and strategic aspects that have captured players’ attention over the years. The official trailer description highlights the intention to provide a consolidated experience that encompasses the fighting mechanics that have been popular in the competitive scene and in unofficial simulators.
One of the most interesting features of the game is its link to Pokémon Home, an application that allows players to manage their Pokémon teams from Pokémon Scarlet/Violet and other generations. This integration will facilitate cross-play between platforms, allowing fans to enjoy their Pokémon on both consoles and mobile devices.
It is anticipated that Pokémon Champions will feature multiple game modes, suggesting a significant evolution in the franchise’s approach. The return of mega evolutions has been confirmed, along with the inclusion of tera evolutions, thus expanding the tactical options available to players. However, the Pokémon Company has indicated that there are currently no plans to include the Pokémon TCG Pocket in official competitions, which could signal a shift in their strategic priorities.
This announcement underscores the Pokémon Company’s intention to attract both new players and veterans, providing an environment that explores new paths in a series that, until now, had been more focused on individual stories and adventures.

Cabernet is a new narrative-focused role-playing game that has arrived to explore the complexity of being a vampire in a human world. Players embody Liza Morozova, a former doctor who, after her transformation into a vampire, faces deep moral dilemmas while helping other vampires and dealing with her thirst for blood.
Set in the 19th century in Eastern Europe, Cabernet stands out for its unique focus on character statistics. Instead of using typical RPG attributes, Liza has scores in Literature, Art, Science, and History, which influence the game’s dialogues and decisions. These features allow players to customize their interactions and unveil new narrative paths through the development of relationships with humans and vampires.
The narrative of Cabernet is complicated by the need for Liza to feed on human blood, forcing players to balance their empathy for the living with her vampiric nature. This vital dilemma raises questions about the essence of humanity and the morality of feeding, as players must decide between sacrificing friends or seeking out victims they do not care about. Each choice has consequences, adding tension to the gaming experience.
Despite its interesting premises, Cabernet is not without technical issues. There have been reports of errors and glitches that complicate gameplay, such as confusing interactions and bugged missions. However, the gripping story and the exploration of morality in a world of vampires have generated great interest among genre enthusiasts. Some players have expressed their desire to revisit the game, despite its flaws, drawn in by the intense decisions and the repercussions of their actions.
In the mid-90s, with the Super Mario Bros movie already released, the failure of Virtual Boy weighing on its shoulders and doubts about its future as it transitioned to 3D with the Nintendo 64 (a console that was born after a notorious falling out with Sony), Nintendo was on the tightrope. In the mid-90s, with the Super Mario Bros movie already released, the failure of Virtual Boy weighing heavily and doubts about its future as it transitioned to 3D with the Nintendo 64 (a console that was born after a notorious falling out with Sony), Nintendo was on the tightrope. So much so that under the careful radar of the company and its “quality seal,” products that would have no place otherwise now slipped through. One of them, completely unknown to the public outside (and inside, to be honest) of Japan, was an absolute wild card that today seems incredible and that you will have to read twice to believe it. Welcome to Shitamachi Ninjo Gekijo.
Literally, Shitamachi Ninjo Gekijo can be translated as “Theater of Empathy of the Low City,” and it is more commonly known as Lily Franky Theater. It is not a video game, in fact: it was an official virtual magazine from Nintendo for the Satellaview, that peripheral for Super Nintendo that only appeared in Japan and managed to gather over 100,000 subscribers in a proto-Internet that gave us sequels to The Legend of Zelda or Super Mario that even had orchestras and live voices. To this day, however, they are considered practically lost in their natural state.
But what interests us today is this magazine created by the Japanese comedian Lily Franky, who in 1995 was just over 30 years old and dared to do the impossible: launch a comic full of wildness, vulgarities, swear words, and many more absurdities with Super Mario as the protagonist. We know that at least seven issues were published throughout 1995 and 1996, although most of them are logically lost today since rather than being downloaded, they were “broadcast” to consoles. The Internet before the Internet was quite a topic.
But then, what exactly was Shitamachi Ninjo Gekijo about? Well, it was about different comics and stories, each more terrible and out of place than the last. The first one, to start off, featured Mario and Toad receiving a photo from a fan. Toad, of course, is fascinated by her breasts, and Mario panics upon learning that she has never had boyfriends before. Toad then insists that he would like to “have more breasts” in his life. In the end, the letter mentions that the woman likes “xxx” (yes, you know what it is) and both Mario and Toad don’t know how to respond. Oh, yes: to top it all off, fans are invited to send photos for Mario and Toad to critique. Japan in the 90s? That was a thing.
The piti after killing goombas
But this was just the prelude. In the second story, Mario orders Toad to kill someone with a butter knife, and when he fails, he punishes him. The victim was none other than Bowser, who goes to the police to try to find out who the killer was. In the next comic, unrelated to the previous one, Mario and Toad try to escape from the prison where they have just been sentenced to 20 years. To get out, Mario pulls a drill from his scrotum (I wish I were making this up) and, digging, they manage to escape… in Brazil. Toad doesn’t know what to do because he knows nothing about the country, but Mario simply relaxes.
Everything is very sordid, but nothing foreshadows what is to come: in the following story, Mario and Toad fight to see who should drive Windows 95 (because, I mean, they think it’s a car) and then Bill Gates enters. Yes, that Bill Gates. They both ask him for money, but instead, the richest man in the world tells them that Windows 95 is not a car, but something you put on your head, and they both call him “idiot.” Japanese humor: if you don’t get it, that’s normal.
Up to this point, you might think it’s not that big of a deal, but the worst is yet to come in the last two magazines that were released. In the first one, Peach and Toad start criticizing Mario, who is not present, and they end up having oral sex (yes, really), but the plumber catches them and, out of anger, kills them in different ways (squeezing Toad and jumping on Peach). After killing them, he lights a cigarette and claims he has a new girlfriend… who turns out to be Bowser! I remind you that all of this appeared officially; someone at Nintendo said “Mario smoking, killing Peach, and getting involved with Bowser, all good”.
In the latest episode, Mario reveals to Toad that he is an alien from the “Celestial Star Shinjuku Naked Crotch” and must return to his planet. His friends then confront him with all sorts of things, and he decides to stay to fix it. At the very end, a man grabs the controller of a console, starts controlling Mario… And immediately ends up in Hell, where he has sex with a lobster. Don’t expect that Switch 2, no matter how many new features it includes, will have anything like this, for sure.
Satellaview completely died on June 30, 2000, with the Internet offering all kinds of content similar to its own. That said, Nintendo started to take much better care of what it offered to its fans and, in fact, we didn’t have another film adaptation until Super Mario Bros: The Movie two years ago. And no one in the company wonders anymore if Mario should kill Peach and Toad after catching them in the act of cunnilingus. Although, who knows? There’s always room in the next Smash for Mario the Stoner…
With the arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2, a new horizon of possibilities opens up for fans of the Big N, who are already starting to speculate about what will (and won’t) be in the new console. Yes, of course, we can take for granted that there will be a Mario Kart – after all, it appears in the first trailer – a Zelda, a Mario, or a Kirby. Even a Smash Bros. The franchises that never fail, right. But… what about those that have been waiting for years and years for their turn to return? Will Nintendo remember its forgotten franchises? Let’s take a look. The franchises that never fail, right? But… What about those that have been waiting for years and years for their turn to return? Will Nintendo remember its forgotten franchises? Let’s take a look. And let them take note from Kyoto!
Yes, the experiment of bringing the SNES game to online multiplayer on Switch was very funny, but we have gone more than 20 years without a main title in the saga. Particularly, since F-Zero Climax appeared on Game Boy Advance in 2004. No matter how much we love Mario Kart, there also has to be room, no matter what, for ships at full speed on impossible tracks with Captain Falcon at the helm. A reboot is necessary for the new generations, no matter what!
Golden Sun
A classic of RPGs that has yet to leave portable consoles: the first title appeared for the Game Boy Advance and the third (and last to date) for Nintendo DS. And we haven’t heard anything since. We have been 15 years without hearing about the saga, and fans are eagerly asking for it. Given that Camelot Software Planning has been doing only things like Mario Golf or Mario Tennis for years, maybe it’s time to wake them from their high-definition slumber. And no, a remake won’t do, as we already know that one.
Wario Land
Honestly, Wario Land: Shake It was one of the best Wii games: its hand-drawn 2D cartoon designs were adorable, the maps were complex, and it rewarded you the more you progressed… It’s great to have Mario, but it’s always fun to play as the onion-eating, fart-launching, foul-mouthed villain in general to reach all the places the plumber doesn’t dare to go. We have been waiting 17 years for the sixth installment, and the Wario Ware games are just simple methadone. It’s time to get to it!
Punch-Out!
Let’s face it: Nintendo wants us to exercise. They tried it with Wii Fit, with Ring Fit Adventure… Why not give Punch-Out a twist so it can also serve as a personal trainer? It’s been 16 years since we had a game in the series (the last one was for Wii, after a similar hiatus) and other alternatives like Arms haven’t worked as well. Now that boxing is becoming popular thanks to streamers hosting fights, isn’t it the best time for Switch 2 to jump on the bandwagon?
Rhythm Heaven
Although we can all agree that the best game in this saga was the one released for Nintendo DS, it is always a pleasure to hit the button at the exact moment, to laugh, to listen to the songs over and over again to improve… There have only been four titles in the franchise (the fourth, in fact, was a “greatest hits” for 3DS) and we haven’t seen it around for ten years. I can’t believe there is anyone who can resist its absurd comedy, its exasperating perfection, its unmatched rhythm. Please, more.
Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!
I can’t wrap my head around how it’s possible that we’ve gone 18 years without a new game from the best rhythm saga in history: Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! or, alternatively, Elite Beat Agents, its American counterpart. Not only did they introduce songs to everyone (from Linda Linda to Sekai wa Sore o Ai to Yobundaze), but they also became a standard that has been copied a thousand times but never matched. It is known that Nintendo refused to make a fourth installment, but it is possible that on Switch 2 they could somehow have their well-deserved revenge.
Ice Climbers
Yes, Ice Climbers. Yes, the game where you went with a hammer to smash your enemies. Indeed, nowadays it doesn’t make much sense to bring back such a simple concept, but maybe if we change the genre… A 3D platformer where snowballs solve puzzles, you have different powers and you can play cooperatively in the style of It Takes Two, with the Ice Climbers as protagonists? No matter how much we’ve seen them in Super Smash Bros, they could bring a surprise hit to the Big N.
It’s almost time to find out what they will surprise us with this time, and the Internet forums are buzzing. Are you ready to -most likely- end up disappointed? The real Nintendo experience!

Every time you visit an amusement park and, besides screaming the loudest on the rides, you always think how much you would love to create one. RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic is coming, a game that combines the best of the first two titles of the famous series, and is set for a physical release on Nintendo Switch on April 24. This release, which promises to attract both nostalgia fans and new players, is already available for pre-order on Amazon. By doing so, players secure a minimum price, as the lowest discount will be applied if the game is reduced in price before its release. Additionally, no charge will be made until the game is shipped.
Since its release on PC and mobile devices in 2016, RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic has received positive reviews, standing out for its unique blend of management and simulation, allowing players to build, customize, and manage their own theme park. This version includes 95 challenges taken from the first two games, as well as the expansion packs Toolkit, Wacky Worlds, and Time Twister. Players will be able to enjoy both the creative freedom in park building and the structured scenarios that the game offers.
This will not be the first RollerCoaster Tycoon game available on Switch; players can also opt for RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures: Deluxe Edition, which, while offering a more modern experience with cartoonish graphics and a greater variety of attractions, lacks the depth of the classic. Additionally, RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: Complete Edition is available, released by Limited Run Games, which includes all its additional content.
While they wait for the arrival of RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic, simulation fans can explore other titles in the genre to pass the time until next month’s release.
Contrary to popular belief, Popeye did not come out of nowhere eating spinach and beating up villains who wanted to kidnap Olive. In fact, it took almost ten years for him to make his first appearance in the comic strip Thimble Theatre, the masterpiece of E. C. Segar, which over the years increasingly focused on that grumpy sailor who, in a very short time, won the love of readers. In 1933, he made his first appearance outside the panels in the animated shorts of the legendary Max Fleischer (if all these […]
Contrary to popular belief, Popeye did not emerge out of nowhere eating spinach and beating up villains who wanted to kidnap Olive. In fact, it took almost ten years for him to make his first appearance in the comic strip Thimble Theatre, the masterpiece of E. C. Segar, which over the years increasingly focused on that grumpy sailor who, in a very short time, won the love of readers. In 1933, he made his first appearance outside the comic strips in the animated shorts of the legendary Max Fleischer (if none of these names sound familiar, ask Google, there’s a whole new and exciting world to discover in front of you) and the rest is history.
Popeye’s production is absolutely vast, from the thousands and thousands of comics (the strip has been published every Sunday for 106 years) to the 231 shorts, its three animated series, the live-action movie -whose set you can still see if you stop by Malta, now converted into an amusement park- or even restaurants and video games. Yes, video games. As strange as it may seem now, in the era of multimillion-dollar AAA productions, an open-world Popeye game throwing punches was not long ago a safe investment.
There have been versions for ZX Spectrum, Game Boy, Game Gear (which for some reason released a volleyball game with the character as the protagonist), Game Boy Advance, NES, and Nintendo Switch, but the most remembered one is one in which he didn’t even appear. It was an idea based on Popeye rescuing Olive across different platforms, which we ended up knowing as, effectively and unexpectedly, Donkey Kong.
Shigeru Miyamoto had received the first serious assignment of his life, and he knew what he wanted: in March 1981, he was completely focused on creating his arcade game based on the Popeye comic strip. He even had a title: Popeye’s Beer Barrel Attack Game. You can imagine, after playing Donkey Kong, who Mario was and who Pauline was. The big surprise came when choosing an enemy: it would have been normal to choose the series’ villain, Bluto, as the kidnapper, but after a few tests, Miyamoto instead drew a nameless gorilla whom he ended up calling… Kong.
Monkeying Around
What was the reason for choosing a gorilla instead of Bluto? Well, Miyamoto found it more interesting and comical, “nothing too evil or repulsive”. The only problem was that it was very complicated to represent Popeye with a 16 x 16 pixel sprite and make him recognizable. Well, that and they had copyright issues: in the end, they didn’t get the license, so they had to improvise along the way. Can’t we use Popeye? Well, then we’ll have to rely on a character created for the occasion.
In this case, the hero would be a man with a mustache, red cap, and red overalls named Mario, as a tribute to the owner of the offices where Nintendo was located, Mario Segale. According to Miyamoto, he was “a fun and calm guy” (which is not exactly how I would describe him, but oh well). The studio wasn’t so sure, at least at first, and looking at the prototypes, they thought the game would be “like Crazy Climber and Pac-man together and divided between two”. But reality hit them in the face when, in just a few months, Miyamoto brought Donkey Kong to life, creating a success like few others remembered and creating from scratch two of the most incredible figures in video game history: Mario and Donkey Kong.
It is said that this is the first time a story (even if it came from the original comics that couldn’t be used) impacted the gameplay, instead of letting a narrative excuse be sought based on it. Donkey Kong was more important to the history of video games than any of us can imagine, but the story still has one more twist, an irony of fate.
And in 1982, just a month after changing video games forever, Nintendo released its game based on Popeye for Game & Watch… And another for arcades the following year. Fortunately, Miyamoto was able to fulfill his desire and direct it. And yes, it is tremendously similar, at its core, to Donkey Kong, but filtered through time, learning, and someone who still has everything to prove. In 1983, Mario Bros appeared, definitively naming the red hero and his green brother. From here, Miyamoto never forgot to take his spinach and became the number one in the industry… And perhaps he wouldn’t have achieved it without this small setback. Wonders of life.
In the end, his princess was indeed in that castle. And it’s because Niftski, the renowned Super Mario Bros speedrunner, has set a new world record by completing the “any%” category in a time of 4:54.565 using a PC emulator. And believe us when we say that it’s no small feat. In the end, his princess was indeed in that castle. And Niftski, the prominent Super Mario Bros speedrunner, has set a new world record by completing the “any%” category in a time of 4:54.565 using a PC emulator. And believe us when we say that it’s no small feat. This phenomenon, who has dominated multiple speedrunning categories, has demonstrated his mastery in an iconic game that, in case you’ve been living under a rock for several years, has become a timeless classic of 2D platformers.
Mamma Mia!
Niftski’s impressive achievement stands out not only for the time achieved but also for the complexity of the run, especially in level 8-4, known for its fast enemies and the need for precise execution filled with strategies. Throughout his attempt, the streamer interacted with his audience while performing perfect jumps and nearly impossible maneuvers, culminating in an explosion of joy once he reached the finish line.
Despite the intense pressure involved in speedrunning, Niftski managed to control his nerves, reaching a heart rate of 188 BPM at the end of the run. Because yes, he was also measuring it, of course. He clarified, however, that he is in good health and that these reactions are typical of the game’s frenetic pace. The speedrunner said he was excited and later shared that his goal is to further improve his record and aim for a time of 4:54.4xx in the near future.
Niftski also defended his choice to use an emulator and keyboard, explaining that this is a legitimate option in the world of speedrunning. According to him, the emulator accurately reproduces the original game and the use of the keyboard is a personal preference. With these achievements and an unwavering focus, Niftski continues to make his mark in the Super Mario Bros. speedrunning community, accumulating records in categories such as Glitchless and Warpless All-Stars, in addition to being the world record holder in The Lost Levels.
After Nintendo messed up in 1993 with the live-action release of Super Mario Bros (yes, that devilish movie), it took thirty years until, in the midst of the franchise era, they finally decided to take a leap of faith and try their luck in Hollywood again. With success, of course, as we all know: Super Mario Bros (the animated one, the good one) was a huge hit, and Miyamoto and company are already planning, for now, to bring Zelda and Donkey Kong Country to the big screen. But… Could there be a game they’ve overlooked that would make a wonderful movie?
Eight years ago, the idea of a Sonic movie might have seemed terrifying, but after the three parts have broken audience records and turned out to be surprisingly fun, it’s logical to ask “What do the writers want to do next?”Well, they have several titles in mind, such as Golden Axe, A Boy and His Blob, Cool Spot (yes, the 7-Up game) and, of course… The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker.
“The movie is already being made and we are not making it, so we can easily answer. I remember when we played Wind Waker, I mean, it would probably be weird to start the Zelda saga with Wind Waker instead of the classic Hyrule, but we both love Wind Waker and it’s so cinematic. After they make this Zelda movie, we’re going to try to get noticed, maybe we can do a spin-off“, they said. I must admit that I have always imagined this adaptation in the hands of Hayao Miyazaki, but if I have to accept the version from the writers of Sonic 3, well, we’ve seen worse things!
I would be lying if I claimed that we have never heard Link’s voice. He hasn’t done so officially, but he has in non-canonical games like The Faces of Evil or The Wand of Gamelon, as well as the 13-episode TV series that aired in 1989. However, in Nintendo’s official games, we’ve only been able to hear a few “Come on!” and some treacherous grunts. Although we see him talking to other characters in the game, what reaches us is “…”. I would be lying if I said we have never heard Link’s voice. He hasn’t done so officially, but he has in non-canonical games like The Faces of Evil or The Wand of Gamelon, as well as the 13-episode television series that aired in 1989. However, in Nintendo’s official games, we have only been able to hear some “Come on!” and treacherous grunts. Although we see him talking to other characters in the game, what reaches us is “…”. It’s part of the magic of the saga… but Nintendo was about to break with everything in Echoes of Wisdom.
28 years after her first game, not only have we been able to control Princess Zelda for the first time, but apparently, with her losing her voice as the protagonist, they intended for Link to speak. But during testing, no one felt too comfortable, as explained by Eiji Aonuma, the director of the saga.
“We made Link speak a little at the beginning, but we felt really bad. We kept thinking ‘He would never say that!’“ The game director, Satoshi Terada, follows the same line: “Anything we made him say didn’t feel right. No one knew the answer to the question ‘What would Link say?’. And of course, we didn’t know it, he never has before!“
What is the advantage of reaching the conclusion that Link cannot (and should not) speak? Well, it allowed Grezzo and Nintendo to create a story in which the hero of Hyrule has to remain completely still and silent, thus starting the game. Link was replaced by Tri, who serves as the voice of Princess Zelda, allowing them to say they have reached thirty years while respecting all the rules they imposed on themselves throughout the saga.
And yes, I am also curious to know who would have been chosen to dub him. Fortunately or unfortunately, we will never know.

Stop the presses!! Nintendo has given the news that we were all waiting for!! No, not the Switch 2, that doesn’t matter at all. It’s a warning that can save your console if instead of using it to play, you were using it as a litter box for your cat to pee on. I know it sounds incredible, but it’s true: your pet’s needs can damage your Nintendo Switch. And now, for some reason, it’s official.
It is possible that someone reading this might suddenly say “WHAT!? Was I not supposed to let my pet go to the bathroom on my console?? And where should it do it then? On my 65-inch television? Is there no other option?”. Don’t worry: the Japanese Nintendo Support account explains it to you on Twitter.
“When you’re not looking, your pet turns your Nintendo Switch into a toy!” (What? No). “By the time you realize it, it’s covered in drool… Pet saliva and urine can cause the device to malfunction by exposing it to water. If you have pets, be careful where you place your Switch”. If my cat drools and urinates on my console, I would be the first surprised, Nintendo. If you had doubts, you no longer have any excuse to allow it. In subsequent Nintendo tweets, showering while playing the Switch can cause it to break. We have to pass the time somehow while they announce their stuff.
