The Battlefield gaming community has expressed nostalgia for the times before the release of Battlefield 2042, a title that was heavily criticized for its performance at launch. In an attempt to regain the trust of its followers, Electronic Arts has implemented a testing program known as Battlefield Labs. This program allows users to test various modes and features of the multiplayer first-person shooter, with the hope that the improvements will be evident for the upcoming release.
They have decided to get into controversy: one of the venues will be Gibraltar
Despite the fact that EA has not officially confirmed the development of a new game, tentatively known as Battlefield 6, rumors and details have begun to flood the internet. According to leaked information from the mentioned program, aspects of the plot and key locations that could appear in the title have been revealed. In particular, it has been confirmed that Gibraltar will be a location in the campaign, a detail that EA had previously hinted at through official concept art.
The Battlefield 6 campaign was originally under the direction of Ridgeline Games, a studio famous for its creator, Marcus Lehto, known for his work on Halo, but which closed its doors in 2024. Currently, it is believed that other studios such as Criterion Games, responsible for the Need for Speed saga, and EA Motive, known for the Dead Space remake and the development of Iron Man, are collaborating on the project along with DICE and Ripple Effect, forming what is known as Battlefield Studios.
According to leaks, the new title could be released before April 2026. Meanwhile, EA struggles to keep the information under control, although it seems that secrets related to Battlefield 6 are about to be revealed, becoming the company’s worst-kept secret.
