Marvel Rivals, the new shooter based on the Marvel universe, is facing serious performance issues on PC, particularly related to excessive memory consumption. Although the recommended requirement is 16 GB of RAM, many players have reported that 32 GB is necessary to enjoy a smooth experience, which has led some users to be forced to upgrade their hardware.
Marvel’s Rivals will stop eating your RAM as if it had never eaten
Guangyun Chen, the game director, has acknowledged these issues in a recent interview during GDC 2025, where he emphasized that optimization is a considerable challenge, especially due to the complexities of the new Unreal Engine 5. Chen indicated that the development team is working on an experimental option that would allow players to reduce memory consumption through a checkbox in the launcher, which is expected to be available for the second season, scheduled for mid-April.
However, it is important to note that the implementation of this solution will not be immediate. Chen warned that the solution must undergo thorough testing before its release, as they consider it a significant issue and need to address the situation in an organized manner. “We can’t just roll it out in a small patch, we have to test it thoroughly,” said the director.
Despite having reasonable specifications for a modern game, the RAM consumption issue in Marvel Rivals has frustrated many users. Some players, like Chen’s companions, have noticed a significant drop in performance after a patch in January, until they decided to upgrade their RAM. With the growing popularity of the game, the community hopes that the proposed optimization measures will be sufficient to improve the gaming experience on a wider range of PC configurations.
