The arrival of Microsoft games on PlayStation has been fruitful thanks to a specific game

In an unexpected turn in the world of video games, Microsoft has begun bringing Xbox titles to PlayStation consoles, including popular games like Sea of Thieves and Forza Horizon 5. This move has been largely driven by the initiative of Jorg Neumann, head of the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 project, who initially proposed the idea of launching this flight simulator on PS5.

The planes sell

The development of Flight Simulator 2024 has posed a significant challenge for the team, especially regarding the size of the game. Initially, the title occupied 120 GB at its launch and, by 2023, it had reached 300 GB. To facilitate its arrival on other platforms, an innovative solution was chosen by storing a large part of the game in the cloud, managing to reduce its size to just 8 GB.

Neumann shared in a recent interview that it was his suggestion to take on the challenge of bringing Flight Simulator to Sony’s platform. Although the initial response was negative, interest from Sony emerged later, leading to a collaboration that would ultimately contribute to a series of important releases for the competing console.

The arrival of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on PS5 has opened the door to a continuous flow of Xbox titles in the PlayStation ecosystem. Neumann believes that the success of the simulator was a trigger for this avalanche of releases, catalyzing a significant shift in Microsoft’s strategy in the gaming sector, where exclusivity is beginning to be re-evaluated.

This movement not only represents an evolution in the relationship between both companies, but also anticipates an era where players from different platforms can enjoy titles that were previously exclusive, significantly expanding the options available in the market.

Microsoft has announced a collaboration with Boeing to develop a virtual training program specifically designed for novice pilots, using the technology of the Microsoft Flight Simulator flight simulator. This innovative program was presented at the European Aviation Training Summit held in Portugal, where the intention to empower future pilots with immersive and customizable tools, powered by Microsoft Azure, was highlighted.

A video game so realistic it is used to train pilots

The new system, called Virtual Airplane Procedures Trainer, is not intended to replace physical flight simulators, but rather aims to reduce the time pilots need to familiarize themselves with basic flight operations and procedures. This approach allows students to develop a stronger understanding of maneuvers in a virtual environment before moving on to practice in real simulators.

Dayan Rodriguez, corporate vice president of Microsoft, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in his statement during the summit: “Microsoft is committed to accelerating learning while optimizing pilot trust, with safety as a priority. The ultimate goal is to prepare pilots to face various scenarios in the air, thereby promoting safety in aviation.

On Boeing’s website, interested parties can view a video that provides an overview of the virtual trainer and its lesson plan, designed to guide future pilots in their learning. Although the idea of using a simulator as the basis for pilot training may sound surprising, the growing use of technology in education suggests that this approach could be a crucial step towards the future of aviation training.

As this collaboration between Microsoft and Boeing develops, we will look forward to seeing how this program impacts the industry, especially regarding the training and preparation of new pilots in an increasingly digitized environment.

Orbx Studios, in collaboration with Universal Pictures, has announced the release of Jurassic World: Archipelago, a new paid add-on for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. This DLC will allow players to explore in great detail the iconic Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna, central locations of the Jurassic Park franchise, just as they were months before the events of the first movie starring Chris Pratt. Users will be able to enjoy an operational park environment, where the recreation of prehistoric creatures such as the Tyrannosaurus rex, Brachiosaurus, and Velociraptor is presented with a remarkable level of detail.

Now it is possible to fly over the most fascinating and terrifying island in the world

The addon will not only be limited to free exploration but will also include structured activities such as VIP transportation and photo tours. In addition, Jurassic World: Archipelago will offer a variety of customized landing strips and helipads, along with adapted facilities in Costa Rica, which will facilitate players’ flying experience in this recreation of the Archipelago of the Five Deaths.

The estimated release date for this add-on is late August and early September 2024, with the possibility of it also being available for Flight Simulator 2020 later on. This news comes at an exciting time, as rumors are circulating about the development of an eighth installment of Jurassic Park, which could add even more content for fans of the saga.

In addition, the series fans are eagerly awaiting two additional projects: Jurassic World: Evolution 3 and Jurassic Park: Survival, the latter presented as a cinematic adventure with horror elements that will take place on Isla Nublar, just hours after the end of Spielberg’s original film. Undoubtedly, these developments continue to keep the excitement alive around the famous franchise.

Travel with us, if you want to fly

The latest Microsoft Flight Simulator was released in 2020, that year that simultaneously feels like it happened three decades ago and five minutes ago, and fans were clamoring for a new title exclusive to PC and Xbox Series. And the wait has been worth it: it is spectacular, has improved fidelity, and even offers all kinds of air simulation, from balloon travel to helicopter flight. No expense spared.

The game creators have actually stated that not only can you explore the planet Earth in its entirety, but technology has improved so much since 2020 that the level of detail is “4000 times greater.” And that’s even with having to compress and optimize, so it wouldn’t be an unfathomable game.

To give an example of the level of detail, in 2024, you can no longer land anywhere with a plane and get off: if there are rocks or it’s a cliff, you won’t be able to do it. And there are many, many rocks all over the planet. And after all, engine failures are much more frequent than we would like (mind you, also in real life), so you will have no choice but to try to find a place where there are no rocks everywhere.

Come on, if you want the ultimate simulator, you have it, and they have added so many things that it seems, directly, like madness. Now you just need to like flight simulators, of course…
