Saros, the next project from developer Housemarque, was revealed during the PlayStation State of Play in February 2025 and will be released in 2026 exclusively for PlayStation 5, with enhancements planned for the PS5 Pro version. This new solo action title follows the story of Arjun Devraj, an explorer trapped on an alien planet called Carcosa, marked by a changing and mysterious environment similar to Returnal, the company’s acclaimed previous title.
Arjun Devraj, played by actor Rahul Kohli, known for his work in series such as Midnight Mass and The Haunting of Bly Manor, faces a series of challenges in a world tormented by an eclipse. The creative direction of Housemarque, led by Gregory Louden, described Saros as an “evolution of Housemarque’s gameplay-focused experience,” which is based on the structure of Returnal but introduces significant new elements.
A constantly changing world with an evident Lovecraftian air
One of the most distinctive features of Saros is its system of permanent resources and progression, which gives real value to each player death. “After each death, you will face a changed world, but in Saros you can choose and permanently upgrade your gear from an evolving set of weapons and suit enhancements”, Louden commented in a PlayStation blog article. This allows players to return stronger to overcome the obstacles presented in Carcosa.
The presentation at the State of Play was just a preview, and the developers have announced that they plan to reveal gameplay details later in 2025. Fans are eager to see how Saros will expand the boundaries of gameplay that Housemarque has cultivated throughout its history.
