Blizzard Entertainment has revealed details about the recent changes in Diablo 4, focusing on the introduction of major additives, one of the most significant additions since the game’s launch. These item modifiers, which guarantee the maximum roll and multiply the stats of items by 1.5, were incorporated during the Loot Reborn update last April. The inclusion of major additives represents an important shift in the game’s itemization, especially in its final phase, addressing criticisms about balance in the early seasons.
A quite interesting last-minute change
The idea of implementing these additives was proposed in the last two weeks of the development of Diablo 4, which demonstrates the flexibility of the game’s code. According to Blizzard’s lead software engineer, Patrick Ferland, the team was able to make this modification effectively thanks to a solid data structure, which allowed for adaptations without fear of destabilizing the final product. This ability to make significant changes in the later stages of development highlights Blizzard’s commitment to a more balanced and satisfying player experience.
In addition to the major additives, the update also brings a revision of the boss system in season 8, which will include new mechanics and some of the most notable bosses from Diablo 3. This revamping aims to enhance the player experience and provide more dynamic and engaging content.
Despite these improvements, players continue to express various concerns about the current situation of Diablo 4. However, it is undeniable that Blizzard has been working intensely on course correction, implementing numerous updates to refine balance and itemization, two of the factors that received the most criticism during the first months after the game’s release.
