iwot Studios, now known for developing an open-world RPG based on the famous fantasy series The Wheel of Time, is in the early stages of production, twenty years after acquiring the rights to Robert Jordan’s saga. This ambitious project, under the direction of Craig Alexander, former vice president of product development at Warner Bros. Games, aims to provide a AAA gaming experience that captures the richness of Jordan’s vast narrative universe.
A game for which we will still have to wait
According to reports, the video game is set to be released in a three-year development cycle, and it is expected to be available for consoles and PC. This release is part of a broader strategy aimed at expanding The Wheel of Time through film, television, and, of course, video games. iwot Studios will not only produce the game but has also been involved in the production of Amazon’s television series, as well as an upcoming movie titled Age of Legends and a 3D animated film, all based in the same universe.
Rick Selvage, CEO of iwot Studios, has highlighted that the video game will encompass the entirety of the world of The Wheel of Time, including stories and background elements that are not limited to a specific area or time period. This suggests a considerable ambition to capture the complexity of the original narrative. However, it is worth remembering that in 2008, Red Eagle Entertainment, the predecessor of iwot, announced a collaboration with Obsidian Entertainment to develop a game based on the same series, a project that never materialized, leaving it uncertain whether this new initiative will effectively come to fruition.
