Tomb Raider is one of the most iconic franchises in video games. Lara Croft is one of the most recognizable characters in the medium, even for those who know practically nothing about it, having managed to adapt to the times in an exemplary manner. Even if they have always been platform and action games, each era of Tomb Raider has its own characteristics. This makes it very remarkable to go back to the past and relive what we left behind.
That’s why we can only celebrate the announcement of Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered. Containing the remaster of three games from the franchise, Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, Tomb Raider: Chronicles, and Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness, the first two were games from the original PlayStation, with the last one being the first to appear on PlayStation 2.
As a continuation of Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, we can expect excellent work in both preservation and remastering. Being able to choose between classic and modern controls, switching between the classic visual style and a modernized one with the click of a button, along with significant polishing in all aspects related to UIs and design, this is a collection that stands as essential for fans of the franchise. And for those who want to learn more about the history of the medium.
Regarding the specific games, Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation is one of the most celebrated games in the franchise, with the most intricate and challenging levels to date. Tomb Raider: Chronicles is quite the opposite, offering us four smaller adventures in four different cities, showing us a more expeditive side of Lara. Meanwhile, The Angel of Darkness is a darker twist of the franchise that, despite an excellent premise and design, was hindered by control issues, numerous bugs, and an inconclusive ending. It is unclear if this will be addressed in the remaster, but we understand that it will be.
If all this sounds good to you, you should know that you won’t have to wait long to enjoy the work of Crystal Dynamics and Aspyr Games. Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered releases on February 14, 2025, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. So now you know, you have a Valentine’s date with none other than Lara Croft.
