Surrealism, a complex genre in the realm of video games, seeks to provoke deep emotions in players through meaningful experiences. In this context lies KARMA: The Dark World, a game developed by Pollard Studio that pays homage to the work of David Lynch, particularly Twin Peaks, and to the literary dystopias of 1984 and Brave New World.

A game that will keep us in perpetual tension

The title is set in a universe inspired by East Germany during the Cold War, exploring themes of surveillance, control, and the erosion of human dignity. According to its creators, this narrative allows for the design of environments filled with moral tension, where the player not only navigates the world but also grapples with issues of memory and identity.

Pollard Studio has used the powerful Unreal Engine 5 to create a visually stunning experience, although they have faced technical and performance challenges. Despite being a small team, they have worked hard to achieve an emotional direction that intuitively guides the player, using light and sound to convey the psychological state of the characters.

However, the road to launch has not been easy. Distribution in Western markets has been hindered by localization issues and regulations, with Japan being a country where they could not launch the game. Despite the challenges, KARMA: The Dark World has resonated with a growing audience, generating a mix of fear, anxiety, and curiosity.

Pollard Studio is already considering expanding the universe of KARMA in future releases, always aiming to provoke reflection in players. “At the end of the game, we hope that they embrace their family and friends in real life, because love is the most important thing,” concluded its developers, emphasizing the emotional connection they seek to establish with the audience.

Twin Peaks had a game in development, but Paramount has decided that you will never be able to play it

The day is gloomy for Twin Peaks fans, as Paramount, the rights holder, has decided to take legal action against the fan-made demo Twin Peaks: Into the Light, officially suspending access to the project. The news was announced by the development team, BlueRoseTeam, via Twitter, confirming that the demo had been “officially suspended” as of July 17, 2025. This action has raised concerns about the future of the project as a whole.

Another blow against fan-made games

The demo, which has been available for almost two years, had attracted players with its aesthetic reminiscent of games from the PS1 era. However, the arrival of the copyright notice has led BlueRose to acknowledge that, although they had remained optimistic, the chances of continuing with the project now seem slim. “At this moment, we can no longer promise any continuity,” they communicated, hinting that they might be considering canceling the game unless a positive solution arises.

Despite the community’s sadness, the developers expressed their gratitude for the time the demo was available and the support received. However, BlueRose is certain that even though the game is not officially available, “the internet never forgets,” suggesting that players may still find ways to access the content.

As fans mourn the cancellation of the demo, the rich history of Twin Peaks as a cult classic is also remembered, suggesting that interest in the series and its derivatives may continue in different forms. In this context, the connection with the gaming community is further strengthened, as they always seek ways to keep the flame of their favorite franchises alive.

Therefore, although the future of Twin Peaks: Into the Light is hanging by a thread, the hope of its followers remains alive.

Who killed Laura Palmer?

In this context, the popular game Stardew Valley has received a new mod titled Stardew Peaks, which introduces players to the enigmatic world of Twin Peaks. Developed by TariVendice, this mod adds the mystical location of Twin Peaks to the universe of the farming simulator, allowing players to explore new locations, characters, and events inspired by the series for its contribution to television narrative.

Stardew Peaks includes a total of 13 new maps, two shops, four non-playable characters (NPCs), and various fishing and gathering areas, enriching the gaming experience. The official description of the mod highlights that its goal is to bring the cozy Americana (and a bit of the strange mystique) of Twin Peaks to Stardew Valley. This work is in progress, and the creator is expected to implement more content in future updates, including three new maps, additional events, or custom items.

As Twin Peaks fans revisit the series following Lynch’s death, Stardew Peaks offers a new way to experience the gripping narrative and the filmmaker’s characteristic surrealism. This combination of video games and cinema demonstrates how David Lynch’s legacy continues to inspire new generations and the gaming community.

David Lynch directed a PlayStation 2 commercial and it is as fascinating as you would expect

The world of film and television has lost one of its most influential artists, David Lynch, who passed away yesterday at the age of 78 after having to retire due to illness. Known for his surreal style and ability to explore human psychology, Lynch left a legacy that includes masterpieces such as the series Twin Peaks and cult films like The Elephant Man, A True Story, and Mulholland Drive. His artistic vision has marked a before and after in the field of entertainment.

Among his contributions to popular culture, a standout is an iconic advertisement for the PlayStation 2, titled Welcome to the Third Place. This commercial, shot in black and white, is a true example of Lynch’s unique style, characterized by its dreamlike and surreal elements. From a dark hallway to unusual characters like a duck man, the ad managed to capture the audience’s attention, although its sales message was not entirely clear to many.

The European marketing director of PlayStation at the time, David Patton, stated that Lynch was the ideal person to communicate the idea that the PS2 was a gateway to other worlds. Despite initial doubts at Sony, the impact of the advertisement was immediate and resonated in more than a hundred countries, although it was not shown in the United States.

The influence of the director in the video game world was notable

Apart from his work in advertising, Lynch’s influence extends to the world of video games. Titles like Silent Hill 2 and Alan Wake 2 have acknowledged his legacy and incorporated elements of his cinema into their design. Masahiro Ito, art director of Silent Hill 2, has expressed how Lynch’s filmography served as inspiration and discussed the possibility of developing stories with schemes similar to his films, although it ultimately did not materialize.

Through his work, Lynch has left a lasting mark that will continue to influence future generations of filmmakers and video game creators.
